2 mistakes too many leaders are making right now (They stop learning, and they don't listen) There was a time when I thought leadership meant doing all the talking. After all, wasn’t that what was expected of me as the business owner? Then, I met a coach who changed everything. She shared this gem: “Great leaders speak last, learn first, and listen always.” It stopped me in my tracks. I realised I’d been so focused on telling that I forgot to hear. And that’s when it clicked: To lead: Listen with intent. To grow: Learn relentlessly. To lead well: Do both, consistently. Here’s the reality: It’s easy to call yourself a leader. But leadership without growth? That's standing still. Growth without listening? Chaos. Listening builds trust. Learning builds perspective. Together, they create unstoppable momentum. The Best Way To Get Started Learning About Leadership I’ve been studying leadership and leading for over 20 years in various environments, from leading a team of developers in a Silicon Valley startup to a regional sales team at Google Latin America. Most of the available resources on leadership focus on the “doing” of a leader. This is fine, but relatively straight forward to learn. What’s quite difficult is mastering the “being” of a leader. So, if you are trying to learn more about leadership, here's the best way to get started: > Read This Book: “The 15 Commitments of Conscious Leadership” by Jim Dethmer, Diana Chapman, and Kaley Warner Klemp. This book provides a refreshing perspective on what it is to be a leader and how to act accordingly. > Watch This YouTube Video: “Top 5 Leadership TED Talks of All Time” by Gro Up Leadership provides excerpts of 5 diverse approaches to what a great leader must be. > Listen To This Podcast: And if you really want to start going down the rabbit hole of the “being” of a leader, listen to “The Transformational Leader” by Adam Quiney. These 3 resources will exponentially accelerate your learning process by exposing you to different perspectives that ultimately present a very coherent point of view.
