Resilience Last night, my daughter (who is in a theater appreciation class) and I enjoyed a performance of "A Christmas Carol" at her high school. It was opening night. There were several folks there, and I expecte there will be many more for the performances today and tomorrow. Opening night can be tough. Everyone is a bit on edge. Everyone has rehearsed and prepared but now the time has come for the rubber to meet the road: it's the first big performance. And, so, remembering my own performances, I go in understanding this. The props and sets were gorgeous and were crafted by the students themselves who were also directed by other students. It was very impressive. The acting and the singing were on point, as were most of the accents and mannerisms. Indeed, it was all impressive even with a few technical difficulties and set change collisions they experienced during scene changes. But even with a pretty dramatic collision that held the audience fast, wondering whether the entire descending backdrop would come crashing down, the performers went on as if nothing at all had happened. They abided their roles, and continued to give stunning vocal and acting performances regardless of the things going on around them. Resilience, as I define it, is the ability to continue pressing forward regardless of circumstance. It's a learned skill for many, I'd wager. But it is an essential skills to hone. It is, as far as I can tell, the drive to disregard failure as ultimate. Today is a good day for reflection. What has hindered you? What mistakes have you made this past week from which you believe you'll never recover? What has knocked you down? What has fallen apart around you unexpectedly, leading you to believe it cannot be rebuilt? Today is a good day to move forward. Today is a good day to learn and practice resilience. #employees #leadership #leaders #artists #creatives #teambuilding #business #skills

🎭 In 2002, I was offered a featured role in The Lion King’s touring company—the biggest show on Broadway at the time. They said, “Michelle, we want you!” And I said, “Thanks, but no thanks.” Why? It wasn’t because I didn’t want it... it was because I didn’t believe I could do it. See, confidence isn’t about whether you can or can’t—it’s about what you believe you can do. And let me tell you, I didn’t believe it back then. That’s the thing: your confidence thermometer might be broken because of the stories you tell yourself. 🌟 Confidence is personal power in action—it’s knowing that even when you’re nervous or unsure, you can step up. The next time self-doubt creeps in, I want you to ask yourself: What story am I telling myself that is killing my confidence? Let’s flip the script together. You’ve done hard things before. You’ve got this. 💪 #Leadership #Authenticity #Confidence #PersonalGrowth #Purpose #PersonalPower #Presence

Leadership isn’t defined by titles or the spotlight—it’s defined by the impact you make, no matter where you stand. During a production of The Little Mermaid I directed, a group of young performers—the Sirens—had no lines, no solos, just movement. At first, they questioned their significance. But as rehearsals progressed, they discovered their power. They became the heartbeat of the show, guiding its energy and shaping the audience’s experience. This is what true leadership looks like. It’s about showing up fully, embracing your role, and using your influence to elevate the whole. Leadership isn’t about being front and center; it’s about being the force that makes everything around you better. This is a reminder that your voice matters, even if it isn’t the loudest in the room. The difference you make comes from your contributions, your support of others, and the way you help shape the conversation. https://lnkd.in/ebRwGir6 So step up, lead with intention, and trust that your influence reaches far beyond what’s visible. #Leadership #ThoughtLeadership #Inspiration #Impact #MakeADifference

At my recent Vocal Tapestry workshop, one thing that came up a lot among participants is the joy of playing a distinct role in contributing to the greater whole of the community experience. We typically don't structure the group improvisations in terms of traditional choral voicings of soprano, alto, tenor, bass. We structure the singing in terms of the function that your voice serves in the creation of the song, such as the initial loop (motor), the next loop that adds syncopation (interlock), harmonic lines, bass lines, vocal percussion, solos. This is a powerful metaphor for the importance of each individual's role in supporting the enrichment of the community - and the recognition that each person can play different roles at different times. You get to expand both awareness of your individual strengths and edges, and you get to discover more possibilities for what you can collectively create. Imagine your team being so in tune with each other that they joyfully ride the creative wave from inspired idea, to implementation. I am #OpenforBusiness. I am available to guide your group through an experiential learning process that is tailored to your team's unique set of needs, desires, and challenges in strengthening your group cohesion and values-alignment. No singing experience required. DM me to discuss how I can support your organization through trainings and workshops for leadership development, corporate wellness, and team building. #innovation #growthmindset #embodiedleadership

I live for interacting and understanding other cultures. Culture is not only how we do things, but how we see and feel the world and others, and relate to them. It shapes human experience and interaction: symbols, language, norms and traditions. It influences our epistemology and ontology. Understanding cultural differences is essential for effective collaboration and negotiation. Cultural misinterpretation or insensitivity can lead to unnecessary conflict while cultural awareness fosters empathy and peaceful and productive collaboration. Don’t y’all think? :)

Culture runs DEEEEEEEEP, y’all ⚡️⚡️⚡️ Most of us are only aware of a few things about culture - the surface-level, tip of the iceberg: Music Food Dancing Literature… etc. But our subconscious (the hidden assumptions, biases, and rules) lurk underneath and that is what ACTUALLY controls a lot of our behavior and how we show up. There are more things than we realize that are truly involved in culture. #CulturalIntelligence #CQ #LeadershipStrategy #Leadership #OrganizationalJustice #OrganizationalCulture

If you do what you did you’ll get what you got. Too often you find yourself being reactive, right? Facing situations that weren’t of your making. Navigating problems created by other people. Dealing with the unwanted things that come your way. You feel bound by your role. Held back by your boss. Trapped within systems and processes that simply aren’t fit for purpose. Or else you fear speaking up. Being seen as “difficult”. Making a mistake. But here’s the thing: If you do what you did you’ll get what you got. Do the opposite of what feels right. Because what feels right is really what feels familiar. And you will attract and be drawn to the very things you don’t want any more. This time will not be different Unless you do something different. Change begins with intention. Make a choice. Become proactive. Set a new intention. Start today. And see things change tomorrow. - For more on speaking, acting and living with intention, join 399 arts professionals just like you who subscribe to my monthly newsletter (link in bio). #theatre #coaching #leadership
