In the United States, there are about 1.8 million nonprofit organizations and 1.5 million 501(c)(3) organizations. These organizations employ about 11.9 million people, making it the third-largest employment industry in the country. They also generate about 5.6% of the American GDP. With all of these registered nonprofit organizations, it’s difficult to say how many of these are truly successful, or which ones fail. Many nonprofits fail within their first year, but we also know that about 20% of small businesses fail within the first year, and almost 50% fail within five years. About 1/3 of nonprofits faced potential closures during the pandemic. Similar to for-profit organizations, the main reasons nonprofits fail is because they don’t keep up with technology, they aim high without adequate planning to achieve those dreams, and most importantly, they fail to recruit the right people. Friday thoughts: As I’m sitting here in sort of disbelief I’m back in this job market, I sit and think about an interview I recently had that gave me motivation. I interviewed with a COO who has been in his industry for 20 years at least and told me he’s envious of where I am. Now, as he said this *in my head* I’m like envious of my desperation and exhaustion? Then he explains how this is such an amazing time period for me because not only do I get to discover and rediscover myself and my career path I also get to choose where I end up. It’s not only about my experience I’ve gain over the years but my intentions on where I end up! This is my motivation because I have recently felt defeated. Then I remembered I am educated, smart, and have determination.
