Traditionally clinicians have been cautious about the use of antithrombotic therapy like aspirin for cavernoma patients, citing concerns about potential bleeding risk. 💊 Recently researchers have begun asking the question if antithrombotic therapy may actually be beneficial to cavernoma patients. ❓ Earlier this month a paper co-authored by Dr Issam Awad was published reviewing the available literature. This paper concluded that there may be a “possible role for antithrombotic agents” however “the evidence remains preliminary… and our findings should be considered hypothesis-generating and not definitive for clinical practice change.” If you’d like to read more, click on the link below for this research paper and also a preceding paper co-authored by Professor Rustam Al-Shahi Salman and Dr Kelly Flemming: https://lnkd.in/ewaXBD_t https://lnkd.in/eMiFDy_H #cavernoma #research #clinicalpractice

#AMCDiscoveries Fracture healing is a complex process. Uncertainty exists over the influence of osteoporosis and the medications used to treat it on fracture healing. Prof Manju Chandran from Singapore General Hospital and Duke-NUS Medical School along with her colleagues from the Fracture Working Group of the Council of Scientific Advisors of the International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF) conducted an exhaustive review of the published literature to explore the impact of anti-osteoporosis medications on fracture healing in humans. They concluded that there appears to be no deleterious effect of osteoporosis medications on fracture healing overall. The benefit of treating osteoporosis and the urgent necessity to mitigate imminent refracture risk after a fracture should be given prime consideration. Beyond THRILLED to announce some BIG news: Our team has been approved for $14.1 million in funding from @PCORI for our research project "Comparing the Effectiveness and Safety of Existing Therapies for Menopause-Related Insomnia Symptoms." This study, like other PCORI-funded comparative clinical effectiveness research (CER), aims to help patients and those who care for them make better-informed #healthcare decisions. Our work will focus on identifying the best options to treat insomnia among peri- and postmenopausal people and to identify differences in the effectiveness and safety based on demographic and medical factors. We're honored to have been selected for this funding and are excited to contribute to the growing body of patient-centered CER. This study represents a significant opportunity to generate awareness and inform decisions made by peri- and postmenopausal people along with their clinicians. Our great team, co-led by Susan Redline and myself, includes BWH investigators Heather Baer Hadine Joffe, MD MSc Kathryn Rexrode Julie Lauffenburger and Sogol Javaheri and many other collaborators across sites. We are grateful to PCORI for their support, and to our incredible team for their hard work in securing this funding. Now, let's get to work! To learn more about our project and its objectives, please visit: https://lnkd.in/dGT78adW Stay tuned for updates as we progress with this exciting research!

Early diagnosis and active monitoring are crucial for chronic kidney disease treatment. To accurately identify individuals at high risk of advanced renal fibrosis, researchers from the Department of Health Technology and Informatics (HTI) of #PolyU have developed “Smart-CKD”, a non-invasive computer-aided diagnostic tool. It integrates ultrasound data and selected clinical variables to provide clinical insights and assesses the risk of moderate-to-severe renal fibrosis progression in chronic kidney disease patients with a promising diagnostic efficiency of 80%. Led by Prof. Michael Tin Cheung YING, Associate Head, and Dr Ziman CHEN, Postdoctoral Fellow of HTI, the team plans to conduct further prospective clinical research on Smart-CKD, utilising PolyU’s innovative medical technology and facilities in collaboration with medical institutions in the Greater Bay Area and Hong Kong partners. Together, we will collaborate on research to enhance the impact of S-CKD on clinical management, ultimately improving CKD patients’ prognosis. A new commentary from JBI Evidence Implementation #JBIMethodology "Collaborative Implementation Science: A Can-SOLVE CKD Case Example" by Selina Allu and colleagues discusses the need for effective implementation tools in healthcare research. While generating evidence is essential, moving it into practice is often where challenges arise - especially when strategies must align with specific end users and contexts. This commentary discusses the development of an “Implementation Toolkit” and a “Pathway to Implementation” guide, created with input from patient partners, researchers, operational leaders and policymakers.
