Did you know that a shocking 95% of adults with a learning disability are unemployed? Such a profound waste of talent. Fair Shot and the charity Kids are trying to change that statistic! This breakfast which launched a report by Kids on what the government and business world can do was brilliant! I am proud to be a long time supporter of both small, but ambitious, charities. Talent comes in many shapes& sizes. What can you do to help give an internship or opportunity to grow? https://lnkd.in/gmVSEq6t

UK charities are hiring staff with 'privilege not potential' according to a report by the EY Foundation. How can charities recruit more working class talent? There are a few ways that charities can be more inclusive for people from a working class background. In our view a good place to start is: ✅ Offering paid training programmes like funded internships and apprenticeships. 🙅 Getting experience in the charity sector shouldn't come at a cost. --- Image Description: the test on the image reads, "How can charities recruit more working class talent?" the text is white on a Charity People green background with dark green patterns in the corners. #WorkingClass #CharitySector #Charities

As business owners, there are numerous ways we can support your local communities to contribute to Sustainability. One impactful approach is to source goods and services locally, thereby stimulating the local economy and supporting other businesses in your area. We can offer internships, apprenticeships, or job opportunities to individuals within the community, providing valuable experience and employment opportunities. Supporting local events, charities, or community organizations through volunteering, sponsorships or donations is another effective way to give back. By actively engaging with and investing in your community, you not only contribute to its well-being but also foster goodwill and loyalty among local residents, which can ultimately benefit your business in the long run. What sort of support is needed in your local community?

Elevate to Even Plus is on a mission to empower the next generation, but we can’t do it without your support. We’re aiming to raise $250,000 to fund internships for at least 50 underserved students next summer—over 90% of which will go directly toward their wages. Our Miles of Impact event offers a fantastic opportunity to get involved with a low financial commitment. Whether you prefer running, walking, cycling, yoga, or even pickleball—whatever gets you moving counts! Every dollar makes a difference. A small contribution of $5 or $10 from you and members of your network can help unlock life-changing opportunities for these students. Why not rally your colleagues and turn September into a month of fitness and philanthropy? Let’s work out together and make a real impact. Join us in supporting the future—because every mile matters. This #GivingTuesday, I am asking you to support the National EMP Network. Why? Even $20 goes a long way for EMPs (Emerging Museum Professionals). Here's how I know: My first museum job required a Masters Degree in Dec Arts and being bilingual in French. It was 30/hrs a week, but the workload and the management style meant it was easily over 40/hrs week. It paid $18,000. Before taxes. In Manhattan. In 2015. I had over $300/mo in student loans plus $800/rent I was so broke I taught myself to like bananas (which I hated my entire life) because they are filling and only $0.17 at the grocery store. I ate cookies/brownies if a coworker brought in the results of a recipe test even though I hate chocolate. I drank beer that was left over from a work event in the staff fridge even though I hated beer at the time. It was free calories. I only had health insurance because I was under 26. Saving for retirement? What retirement? $20 would have been a whole month's worth of groceries. National EMP Network (NEMPN) is a community that I wish I had known about back then. I would have felt less alone, and more empowered to find a job that paid better instead of feeling desperate enough to keep this one. NEMPN provides not only community and resources, but conducts advocacy to try to get rid of unpaid internships and promote pay equity in the field. When I first got involved with NEMPN there was a narrative that you HAD to do a series of unpaid internships in order to get a job in the museum sector. While that situation is still sadly the case for many, less and less people agree that this is acceptable and that you should have to "do your time" to gain museum employment. I don't want anyone else to go through what I did. Happy to share more about my experience or how NEMPN can help you navigate the museum field! If you are reading this and you're a museum studies professor or anyone in a position to mentor EMPs, please make sure they are aware of our organization! And if you can, please consider donating to NEMPN this Giving Tuesday. https://lnkd.in/dAtbe4AZ
NEMPN + Giving Tuesday Looking for an organization to support on Giving Tuesday, December 3? Consider NEMPN and help us put some of our great work into action for 2025! Your donation will go towards: 🌟 Compensating speakers & presenters (Museum Workers Advocacy Day & other events) 🌟 Advocating for Salary Transparency 🌟 Fighting for Paid Internships 🌟 Growing unpaid internship stipend program We realize that a good portion of our community is underpaid and overworked, but for those of us that can donate, every dollar will go directly towards lifting up our community in every way that we can. Donate $20 or more between now and December 15th, 2024 and receive a free holographic sticker in the mail that shows your support for EMPs! Go to https://lnkd.in/gcu2c_eb to donate. The National EMP Network is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and all donations are tax exempt!

SUNDAY HYPOTHESIS: Sometimes you deserve a second chance because you weren't ready for the first. A second chance isn’t just about being given another opportunity—it’s about proving that your commitment to making a difference is unwavering. My story is similar to most college goers- Imagine going on a quest to contribute towards something meaningful and you come across NGOs. Pawzz Foundation popped up on Internshaala and I wanted to dive right in. It felt like discovering a hidden treasure map that leads to a dreamland where I could raise funds like Diana Penty in Shiddat 🎇 THE REALITY WAS FAR FROM IT 😭 I failed to convince my dad to donate for the cause. Although I reached out to a large audience and crafted exceptional messages, I did a miserable job on the fundraising part. SHUBHIKA SINHA, I remember texting you about how challenging it is to be a Marketer in an NGO(the opinion still holds true). The tenure ended and I parted ways with one certificate of completion in hand. I did then what I knew best but now that I now better, I want to do better. I approached my HR who was more excited than I was to have me back on the team. To all those who want to make a difference- big or small, take one opportunity at a time. Your dedicated storyteller, Varshini S.:) (Now a member of Pawzz) #MakeADifference #InternshipJourney #PawzzFoundation #secondchances
