We wanted to share the 'Discussion Paper on Indigenous Food Sovereignty' that was commissioned by the B.C. Ministry of Agriculture and Food on behalf of the B.C. Indigenous Advisory Council on Agriculture and Food (IACAF) and prepared by Tea Creek. In this paper, you will learn what Indigenous Food Sovereignty is and why supporting Indigenous Food Sovereignty supports reconciliation, enhancing food security, offsetting the cumulative impacts of colonization and fighting climate change. Improving food security involves a multi-faceted approach that addresses the underlying causes of food insecurity. Strategies should focus on enhancing agricultural productivity, ensuring efficient supply chains, promoting sustainable practices, and supporting local food systems. #GeneralAgriculture

Two of the important points raised in the latest Food, Farming and Countryside Commission symposium report: 1. Regenerate local food infrastructure 2.Reduce food inequalities among households and families by increasing access to freshly cooked food in and out of the home and helping reduce waste. 📚 New working paper: From Food Security to Food Resilience While food security has surged up the UK political agenda, it’s becoming clear in a volatile, climate-affected world, the UK’s food supply will only be secure if we make it more resilient. In March 2024, the third symposium convened by FFCC’s Farming Leadership group brought together farmers, policymakers, academics and politicians to explore the barriers and opportunities involved in developing resilience. 🌽 To transform our food systems effectively we need everyone on board, we need a 'whole-of-government' approach. Rather than tackling problems in isolation, this approach becomes essential to achieve substantive outcomes. 🟪 In the context of transforming food systems this is essential. It requires input and coordination from various ministries and government bodies. Ministry of agriculture, health, environment, finance, and planning should gather and work cross-sector. We currently have many ambitions and targets aiming to restore, enhance and protect the environment. What we are lacking is the same for #food production. What’s required is clear leadership from our government that food production and the #environment are integral and can integrate not only in policy and regulation, but also on the ground practically.
