Congratulations Professor Philippe Poirier on the launch of a new academic year of the prestigious Research Chair in Legislative Studies at the University of Luxembourg for the period 2024-2025. How important the simulation of the work carried out by the European Parliament and the analysis of the state of representative democracy in Africa, America and Europe. These types of parliamentary training programs, involving students, researchers and practitioners, including doctoral students, are essential to support and promote democratic quality around the world. The great challenge of modern times is to understand that democracy, like freedom or life itself, requires constant care. It's not easy, not at all. It's quite the opposite. Losing your freedom, like losing your life, is not a viable option. Nor live under authoritarian regimes. However, leaderships based on the concentration of power, the suppression of freedoms, and the violation of human rights usually achieve popular support in societies frustrated by low-intensity, merely electoral, or even failed democracies, which in addition to being inefficient and Ineffective ones often develop political communities with questionable ethics. Defending and promoting quality, genuine, effective, successful democracies is defending freedom and life. What more important? Furthermore, the world demands global governance that, although imperative, is very far from being achieved. The more quality democracies there are in the world, the greater the chances of achieving a better world. Thanks for the invitation to the launch Profesor Poirier. It will be a privilege to accompany you representing to the Escuela de Política, Gobierno y Relaciones Internacionales of Facultad de Derecho | Universidad Austral.
