🤔 Re INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY MANAGEMENT ROLES: 👉 Leaders can direct and manage a development team *without* having been a developer and coded in in .NET, Java, ASP, JSP, HTML, C, Python, APEX, Snowflake, and (insert language here). 👉Leaders can direct and manage a technical team *without* having been the architect of the particular platform, network topology, or platform implementation. 👉Leaders can direct and manage a technical team *without* having been the database administrator for SQL, Oracle, (insert database name here). 👉Leaders can direct and manage a technical team to deliver for the customers or business *without* also being a certified configurator in the toolset. Sure there are a few great technicians who can become leaders. But to require IT directors and managers to also be experts in the tools of the team – are you really hiring someone to lead and manage the group or are you hiring for a senior technical consultant/technical lead who will still code and configure more than they manage? There’s a lot of great talent out here that is being excluded when the job posting says “must have 5 years of recent coding in XYZ- mandatory” or “must have 10 implementation of platform X.” HR and Compensation teams - start reviewing the mandatory requirements in your job descriptions! There's a reason you "cannot find anyone" - you are keeping great candidates out of the pipeline!
