This Monday, we observe the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, a crucial day dedicated to raising awareness about a global issue affecting millions. Violence against women transcends gender boundaries, impacting us all, and we each hold the power to prevent it by rejecting passivity, refusing to be bystanders. It is incumbent upon each of us to contribute to the creation of safe environments, extend support to those in need, and confront behaviors or systems that perpetuate harm. Let us persist in our advocacy for gender equality and safety for every woman. I urge everyone to take time for introspection, engage in dialogue, and seek ways to enact positive change. For those seeking further information, this resource serves as a valuable starting point. Together, we can foster a culture that denounces violence and upholds respect as the standard. Let's work collectively towards a world where violence has no place and respect is the prevailing norm.

SHORT SUMMARY Let’s knock violence against women and girls out of the park! Violence against women and girls continues to be one of the most pervasive human rights challenges in the world, with one in three women being a victim of violence. In sports, women and girls are faced with particular risks, combined with ineffective or inexistant prevention and response mechanisms. Yet, sport holds enormous potential to drive gender equality by improving the well-being of girls and women, and boosting their confidence and leadership skills. This handbook aims to create a shared understanding of the problem and support the development of effective policies to tackle violence against women and girls in sport. https://lnkd.in/gmj8pWzZ

16 Days of Activism Day 12 Empowering Women as a tool to end GBV Empowering women is a powerful tool to end gender-based violence (GBV). By promoting education, economic independence, and leadership opportunities for women, societies can challenge the norms that perpetuate inequality and violence. Empowered women are better equipped to advocate for their rights, access justice, and influence policy changes that protect against GBV. Additionally, fostering gender equality creates a cultural shift where respect and dignity become the standard, breaking cycles of abuse and paving the way for safer communities. #16DaysOfActivism #OrangeTheWorld #GBV

As the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action approaches in 2025, it is crucial to reflect on the progress made and recognize the ongoing gaps in achieving the full empowerment and protection of women and girls. The Beijing Declaration, adopted in 1995, outlined a visionary framework for gender equality, and its principles remain more relevant than ever. It is a call for stronger political will, greater resource allocation, and collective action to end gender-based violence. The urgency of addressing this crisis cannot be overstated. Every effort counts in building a world where women and girls are free from violence and able to live with dignity, safety, and equality. The #16DaysofActivism offers an opportunity to revitalize our collective commitments and drive action, holding decision-makers accountable for ensuring the realization of gender equality globally. We must continue to say #NoExcuse for violence against women and girls, and work toward a future where such violence is eradicated.

Gender-transformative messaging is a powerful tool in the prevention of violence against women and girls (VAWG). Tailoring prevention strategies to challenge harmful beliefs, norms, and behaviors among both specific and general populations is essential for reshaping attitudes toward gender equality and addressing the root causes of VAWG. The Communicating Equality project created two Discussion Guides to support organizations in this work: >> Guide 1: Summarizes current approaches to gender-transformative prevention messaging for specific and general populations and invites thinking on public communication in the Canadian context: https://buff.ly/41354tK >> Guide 2: Designed for organizations working with men and boys, this guide provides examples of messaging approaches that promote healthier masculinities and support men and boys in acting to prevent VAWG: https://buff.ly/4102V1X This project was funded by Women and Gender Equality Canada. #EndVAWG #CommunicatingEquality #GenderEquality #ViolencePrevention #PrimaryPrevention #NoExcuse #16Days

DAY 17 OF ACTION! As we strive for a more equitable world, it's imperative to acknowledge the often-overlooked reality of male survivors of violence and abuse. The harsh truth is that if we don't support male survivors, we're not truly supporting survivors at all. The United Nations has made significant strides in promoting women's and girls' empowerment through various initiatives, such as: - The United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) - The Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) - The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 5: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls While these initiatives are crucial, it's essential to recognize that men and boys also face unique challenges and vulnerabilities. Male survivors of violence, abuse, and trafficking often lack access to resources, support, and services. To address this disparity, I urge the United Nations to take a more inclusive approach to supporting survivors. This includes allocating resources and funding specifically for initiatives that cater to male survivors. I call upon the United Nations to declare November 19th as International Men's Day. This would provide a platform to raise awareness about the specific challenges faced by men and boys, promote positive male role models, and encourage discussions about masculinity and gender equality. #Movember #MonthOfAction #MenToo #Nov19 #InternationalMensDay #MensMentalHealth #MensEqualityMonth
