Gender-transformative messaging is a powerful tool in the prevention of violence against women and girls (VAWG). Tailoring prevention strategies to challenge harmful beliefs, norms, and behaviors among both specific and general populations is essential for reshaping attitudes toward gender equality and addressing the root causes of VAWG. The Communicating Equality project created two Discussion Guides to support organizations in this work: >> Guide 1: Summarizes current approaches to gender-transformative prevention messaging for specific and general populations and invites thinking on public communication in the Canadian context: https://buff.ly/41354tK >> Guide 2: Designed for organizations working with men and boys, this guide provides examples of messaging approaches that promote healthier masculinities and support men and boys in acting to prevent VAWG: https://buff.ly/4102V1X This project was funded by Women and Gender Equality Canada. #EndVAWG #CommunicatingEquality #GenderEquality #ViolencePrevention #PrimaryPrevention #NoExcuse #16Days

This Monday, we observe the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, a crucial day dedicated to raising awareness about a global issue affecting millions. Violence against women transcends gender boundaries, impacting us all, and we each hold the power to prevent it by rejecting passivity, refusing to be bystanders. It is incumbent upon each of us to contribute to the creation of safe environments, extend support to those in need, and confront behaviors or systems that perpetuate harm. Let us persist in our advocacy for gender equality and safety for every woman. I urge everyone to take time for introspection, engage in dialogue, and seek ways to enact positive change. For those seeking further information, this resource serves as a valuable starting point. Together, we can foster a culture that denounces violence and upholds respect as the standard. Let's work collectively towards a world where violence has no place and respect is the prevailing norm.

Every day, we each have a choice: uphold the status quo or replace it with something better. As we begin the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, if you are wondering what more you can do to take action—you are in the right place. For the next 16 Days, we will be sharing 16 practical and evidence-based ways to accelerate gender equality in your workplace. They are not in order of importance, nor is one more urgent than the other. Instead, this work requires each of us to take responsibility and make change wherever we can, with whatever we have. Let’s get started… 1️⃣ Check to see if your organisation has a Family Violence policy. And if not, why not? What we know, statistically speaking, is that there will not only be people in your organisation who are victim/survivors of violence—there will be perpetrators too. What message are you sending to them on International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women? ⬇️ Download a copy of the Accelerating Workplace Gender Equality Toolkit today: https://bit.ly/40TfT1r Enough is enough. #16Days16Ways #16DaysOfActivism #WorkplaceGenderEquality #GenderWorksAustralia #IDEVAW #ViolenceAgainstWomen

Today marks the 24th anniversary of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security (WPS). Resolution 1325 reaffirms the importance of women’s leadership in every step of the peacebuilding process. Earlier this year, we shared our first annual Women Waging Peace report, created directly from the recommendations and priorities of women peacebuilders around the world. This report leverages the experiences and perspectives of women peace leaders to communicate clear priorities to funders and policymakers about what matters most for building sustainable and long-lasting peace. Women peacebuilders from around the world identified the following issues as top priorities for the peacebuilding field this year: 🕊️ Gender equality 🕊️ Conflict prevention 🕊️ Addressing gender-based violence or violence against women Learn more about our report’s findings: https://hubs.la/Q02Wvswq0 #1325anniversary #womenpeacesecurity #WPS #peacebuilding

This past week was Gender Equality Week. As we reflect on progress made, we must also acknowledge the work still to be done—especially when it comes to employment equity for marginalized groups. CCMW’s latest study, Still Overqualified and Underemployed?, shines a light on the unique barriers faced by Canadian Muslim women in the workforce. Despite their qualifications, Muslim women continue to face higher unemployment rates, racial and gender segregation, and institutional discrimination. It's time to unlock the full potential of all women by addressing these intersectional challenges head-on. Read more about the study and its findings: https://lnkd.in/eiK2AM4i #GenderEqualityWeek #MuslimWomenInCanada #Intersectionality

Preventing violence against women and girls (VAWG) remains one of the most urgent issues of our time. Today, on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and the launch of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, we reflect on what it means to take meaningful action to end this global crisis. The Communicating Equality project is a step toward this goal, designed to strengthen Canada’s efforts in the primary prevention of VAWG. VAWG is driven by entrenched gender inequalities, harmful stereotypes, and norms that condone VAWG in our society. Through gender-transformative public messaging, this project challenges these underlying drivers and promotes the cultural shifts needed to prevent violence before it happens. As we begin the 16 Days of Activism, let’s come together and act now. Visit https://lnkd.in/g9NM8J6y to access the Toolkit & Training, view our gender-transformative messages, and access a suite of resources to learn how we can all contribute to a safer, more equitable world. This project was funded by Women and Gender Equality Canada. #EndVAWG #CommunicatingEquality #GenderEquality #ViolencePrevention #PrimaryPrevention #IDEVAW #NoExcuse #16Days

🔶 Engaging men to end violence against women 🔶 Violence against women is not just a women’s issue – it’s a societal issue. At Women for Women International, we are convinced that creating safer, more equitable communities requires the active participation of everyone, including men. Through our Men’s Engagement Programme, we work with men in conflict-affected areas to challenge harmful gender norms, encourage respectful behavior, and foster healthier relationships. By tackling the root causes of gender-based violence, men become allies in building a world where women can live equally and in safety. In this year’s #16DaysOfActivism, let’s remember: true change happens when we come together to challenge inequality and dismantle the systems that perpetuate violence. Join us in standing against violence and for gender equality. Together, we can create a futurewhere every woman and girl can thrive. 🧡 #EndViolenceAgainstWomen #MensEngagement #GenderEquality #SupportWomen #EndVAW #NoExcuse #16Days #EliminationOfViolenceAgainstWomen

The International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Girls and White Ribbon Day 2024 underscore the pressing and urgent need to tackle gender-based violence. The #ItStartsWithMen campaign by White Ribbon UK focuses on the pivotal role of men and boys as allies in driving change by confronting detrimental actions and challenging harmful behaviours. By taking accountability, men can greatly aid in establishing a safer and more just society for women and girls. This White Ribbon Day, 25 November, we urge men to hold themselves responsible to women and each other, to foster positive behavioural shifts and transform harmful cultures. Gender equality is vital for this cultural shift and ensuring safer environments for women and girls. #CPWO #EndOVAW #EndViolenceAgainstWomen #EndGBV #WhiteRibbonDay
