Nonprofits are a huge part of the EE community in our state. We step up for California every day by protecting our natural resources and supporting our local communities. It's time for California to step up for nonprofits with fair contracting. We urge the Newsom administration to pass the #NonprofitEquityInitiative: bills #SB336 #SB1246 #PassTheNonprofitEquityInitiative; #nonprofitequityinitiative #EnvironmentalEducation

These 2 practices can help us create a stronger civil society: There’s a lot that the private sector can do. In the wake of hurricanes striking across the Southeast this fall, nonprofit organizations played a vital role in delivering much needed aid to hard hit communities. Last month, nonprofits across the country took part in educating voter. They registered young people to vote, and encouraged broad participation in the democratic process. It’s especially clear today that participation in civil society—whether through giving or volunteering— is vital to the functioning of our national community and society. http://dlvr.it/TGr1ZW

55 pages is *always* too many pages for any type of funding. Maybe we should add page limits to grantmakers the same way they require character/word limits for grantees. #CrappyFundingPractices
“Please, Sir, I want some more!” Is Oliver Twist a current enough reference? We’re going with it! The “Sir” getting today’s callout is the Contra Costa County Employment & Human Services Department, which offers biannual grants of $20,000-40,000 for eligible nonprofits responding to their 55 page rfp. We’re feeling weak just thinking about it. Why must nonprofits work our butts off to compete for a barely nourishing bowl of porridge? Grant size matters! If the application is burdensome, and the award amount is going to fund a small percentage of staff time over two years, one option is to restructure your grants to give fewer awards in larger amounts. Our contact called this practice the “peanut butter approach.” Spreading limited resources too thin is a #CrappyFundingPractice! If your funder uses the peanut butter approach, tell us about it here! 📢 https://lnkd.in/gStX7dBd

Dear YOU: Is tomorrow a Fri-yay because it's Pay-day??? Would you consider using $25 of those dollars to support our local furniture mission, an organization that continues to help families in need at an exponential pace while working with less funds than before?! Think YOU wouldn't matter? My data analytics show that each post gets roughly 1,000 views, if I could even convince HALF of you that are skimming by this to take time to push a button and help, you'd literally be a part of the group that changes how many families can be helped next quarter! BE THE BETTER HALF! :) https://bit.ly/3xFkapZ
A Tale of Two Julys Last month we nearly doubled our 2023 july impact, setting a new record for families served in a single month! 89 families provided over 1,300 pieces of furniture is incredible. These numbers are astounding, but don't tell the whole story. They don't tell you about how much effort went into all of the hours gathering extra inventory to accommodate this many more clients. They don't tell you about the effort put in by our volunteer team in our warehouse during the hottest days of the year. They don't tell you about what having decent furniture at no cost means for 89 local families who are getting back on their feet. The growth in demand we're seeing makes 1 thing clear - We are providing a critically needed service to local families in crisis. We are so grateful to our furniture donors, financial supporters, and volunteers that make so much happen for local families in our community. Financial gifts of all sizes make an impact. Collective action can lead to change. We’ve seen proof of it right here at FIRST UNITED. Just last week, the government announced proposed amendments to the Residential Tenancy Act—addressing many of the issues and some of the suggested solutions outlined in our law reform platform. We consider this a win, not just for FIRST but for the one million people who rent homes across BC! But this couldn’t have been done without the hundreds of people who shared their eviction stories for our BC Eviction Mapping research. Or the hundreds of people who signed our petition to the Housing Minister. Or the donors who made this work possible. A small action by multiple individuals can make a great impact! Will you be part of making a change? Join us and hundreds of others by making a gift to support our life-saving programs this April. Give today at https://lnkd.in/g2-tN8ZB. We need to raise $50,000 by April 25 for our life-saving programs. Will you help us reach our goal? Click the link to see our progress. #DTES #CollectiveAction #BCEvictionMap

https://lnkd.in/e7j2ctvC Donors are the reason Stomping Ground has never and will never turn away a camper or a family for financial reasons. I do not know of ANY OTHER CAMP that does this. It’s hard to blame them because, for those camps, it is risky as hell! But not for us. We have put the price of camp in the hands of those we serve because it is equitable and just. The only reason why camp has the audacity to try this year after year is because of donors like you. We believe that you believe in Stomping Ground. Last year, over 50% of our campers experienced the magic of camp through our trust-based sliding scale. Your commitment to Camp Stomping Ground is a commitment to kids. You believe in their power and potential. You trust that when given the chance, they will change the world. Your support makes all of the difference. This year, our goal is to raise 150k to keep making this possible. We know it is possible. Today is Giving Tuesday. Let's kick it off right.

Imagine the power of a simple idea that has given the precious gift of a furnished home to 10,000 households. Beds, linen, lamps, furniture and other essentials to make a home. Kudos to everyone(past and present) involved in making the a reality. Let’s keep it going to the next 10,000 households. The Green Chair Project

Thanks to our amazing community, The Green Chair Project is thrilled to announce three significant milestones in our mission to furnish homes and change lives throughout Wake County. Today we celebrate: · Providing 10,000 children with a bed/crib, who previously lacked one of their own. · Serving 10,000 households with essential items needed to make a house a home. · Diverting 10,000 tons of furniture and household items from landfills. Please take five minutes to read the latest piece by Jeffrey L. Reynolds, Ph.D for InnovateLI about the critical role nonprofits play in our communities and the dangers of government overreach into the nonprofit sector. It seems politics is finding its way into nonprofits, becoming yet another tool for politicians to push their agendas. Allowing nonprofits to endorse political candidates would erode trust, create chaos in boardrooms, and threaten their very survival. What’s at stake if politicians and government cross the line into the nonprofit sector: Taxpayer Impact: If nonprofits are allowed to endorse political candidates, donations meant to support important community programs could be funneled toward political campaigns. This would allow wealthy donors to use nonprofits as a loophole to make tax-deductible political contributions, which would shrink the overall tax base. That means less government revenue—and when the government has less money, it’s everyday taxpayers who are forced to make up the difference through higher taxes or cuts to essential services like schools, roads, and healthcare. Community Services: Nonprofits provide crucial services like food assistance, housing support, mental health care, and educational programs. These organizations are trusted by the public because they focus solely on addressing community needs without any political agenda. If they start endorsing candidates or becoming involved in political campaigns, their focus will shift from serving the community to serving political interests. This could lead to fewer resources, less effective programs, and a decline in the quality of services you and your neighbors rely on. Imagine nonprofits being pressured to prioritize politics over helping those in need—our communities would suffer as a result. It’s in all of our best interests to protect nonprofits from political influence and keep them focused on delivering the essential services that support our communities. How You Can Help: Next time a candidate asks for your vote, ask how they’ll support local nonprofits without politicizing their missions. Let’s keep our nonprofits strong, independent, and community-focused. Read Dr. Reynolds' article to learn more and take action. #NonprofitsMatter #KeepPoliticsOut #SupportLocalNonprofits
"So, the next time a political candidate ambushes you outside a bagel shop or on a crowded train platform with a bumper sticker or pamphlet asking for your vote, ask how he or she will keep local nonprofits strong, independent and above the political fray. Remind them that nonprofits are small businesses that employ their neighbors while delivering programs that save taxpayers money and save lives."
