This week on Conservation Connected I am launching my new series, Controversies in Conservation. Conservation solutions are not easily made. Often times these solutions take into consideration numerous factors such as environmental, political, social and cultural. A lot of thought goes into sourcing solutions that can be effective for a specific environment. This series will look at varying conservation issues and present you all with information on each so that we can all make well-informed decisions. Don't forget to follow me on instagram to get more information and keep up to date with channels. I started reading an interesting paper last Fri pm... and continuing a bit this pm.. ... can recommend if you have a bit of time to take a look.... I'd like to see #hcvs #conservation added to this kind of inventorying. A vision for the future conservation evidence landscape: there is a need to address the shortfalls in access to evidence to support effective efforts for nature recovery. In this paper, we explore four key areas for action to address environmental evidence needs. https://lnkd.in/eX6viTwV #nature #evidence #biodiveristy

🎯 We’re one step closer to our 30 by 30 target 🎯 Today, Environment Ministers agreed to the National Other Effective area-based Conservation Measures (OECMs) Framework. OECMs, also known as Conserved Areas, provide opportunities to recognise conservation of biodiversity in areas beyond formal Protected Areas. The framework identifies principles to guide Conserved Area recognition. It also includes: 🌳 information on implementation of the principles 🌳 minimum requirements 🌳 a site assessment tool for landholders to determine whether their land meets requirements. We’ve worked with state and territory governments on the framework to ensure high-quality Conserved Areas can be recognised in Australia. Recognition of Conserved Areas will contribute to our national 30 by 30 target to protect and conserve 30% of land by 2030. It is also a part of our nature positive work, to protect and restore our lands and seas. 🔗 Read more: https://brnw.ch/21wKV9K

🚨 Paper Alert 🚨 A new report reveals damaging activities permitted in 1/3 of top marine protected areas. This research by Marine Conservation Institute scientists and key partners raises concerns about the effectiveness of current marine protected areas (MPAs). With only a fraction delivering on their promise, it's time for a reassessment of global MPA strategies to ensure effective protection of marine ecosystems. Source: (Journal of environmental management) Study identifies priority conservation areas for threatened amphibians in the Yangtze River Delta, emphasizing the need for habitat management considering environmental changes, life cycle traits, and urbanization impacts. A Bayesian model reveals spatial and seasonal habitat dynamics, highlighting critical restoration needs and challenges during autumn hibernation. Findings support improved conservation strategies that account for seasonal variations and habitat heterogeneity.
