ICYMI, there is a new episode of "On Civility" from The Henry Latimer Center for Professionalism at The Florida Bar available, where First DCA Judge Ross Bilbrey advises that zealous advocacy on behalf of a client is fine — but he says true professionals work with their opponents to settle as many issues as possible without court intervention. Bilbrey has some advice for lawyers who test the limits of zealous advocacy — “Don’t fight the extraneous stuff,” and remember the “Cowboy Code.” “You fight over what matters, you don’t fight just for the purpose of fighting." https://lnkd.in/en4xnfXZ

What does it mean to have a "survivor-centred approach" to justice and reparation for #torture? Each survivor of torture is different. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to achieving justice and reparation. REDRESS has developed nine key principles that underpin its commitment to being survivor-centred across all work areas, including the three main techniques used to challenge torture and deliver impact: (1) strategic litigation, (2) policy advocacy, and (3) media and communications. This resource so succinctly outlines the practical application of the survivor-centred approach which is critical when working with and for survivors. It's great to see the intentional exploration of this approach and its application in various fields that work to increase access to redress.
