Hiring for tiny businesses is very different to hiring for big enterprises. I've just concluded a couple of key/first hires for founders who are ready to grow. The risk and reward on both sides are high. The human elements - opportunity, relationship, drive - come to the fore when neither side has a safety net. A lot of it comes down to building trust. Doing it well can transform a business and make a career. Which is the joy of it really. It's an art, not a science Vocative

1moWhen I was first starting my company (years ago) the hires were very much based on compatible personalities, drives and even sense of humour. It's only recently as I've worked with bigger companies I see it as a skills "box ticking" exercise. For me it comes down to, if you are passionate about your company and you want more passion, a hire will have very little to do with skills which can be taught.
