📼 #mondaymoodboard This is why #design is so cool. This book reminded me of the amazing range of designs that can all happen within a narrow category like blank tapes. A little bit of #80s and #90s inspiration in there as well. https://lnkd.in/e5N3BqeM

While we can broadly categorize colors into two groups, you know warm colors and cool colors, they can also have multiple associations. Usually, there’s a literal association and a more abstract one. Blue is a great color. Let's take blue for example. 🔵 Blue is often seen as a trustworthy, intelligent color. But as we all know, it's also strongly associated with water. So in this case one association is more abstract, alluding to a personal quality while the other is a literal color association. Let's dive into a #design breakdown of all colors with Kathryn Grayson Nanz in this snippet from her "Foundations of Design for Developers" book, which you can also grab as a free eBook in the comments below! 👇

8/52 These books are the spark of all my ideas and concepts. ⚡️ One of my first steps for EVERY Design project is to get my ideas onto paper, giving me the freedom to develop concepts further. I literally carry my pocket one everywhere just incase! ✏️ Sometimes, I will even sit and go back through my old notebooks to revise ideas and look back at concepts that didn’t make the grade, but had the potential… (these two are recent additions to my archive). 🔥 Ever worked with me on a Design project? Chances are that the origins of your design can be found in one of these sketchbooks. 🤙 (Yes, I am a massive Aaron James Draplin fan). #LogoDesigner #GraphicDesigner #IdeaCreation #FieldNotes

Book design has always been one of my key passions. But designing a book is so much more than image and type on paper. To me it has always been about the personal experience and connection created through physical interaction with a piece. A strong concept for design combined with careful consideration of size, structure, pacing, paper, inks, binding, speciality techniques... all play a role in how the reader engages with the book. But more importantly, how they "feel" about the contents. It's a way of "letting the reader in" to the subject through multiple doors. It is a fact that physical engagement makes for a more memorable experience. In a word where so much of our lives are digital, there is something truly magical about a physical object!

📕 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞’𝐬 𝐚 𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐪𝐮𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐦𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮! As a bestselling, award-winning book designer with over two decades of experience, I’ve learned that truly great book design isn’t just about what you see—it’s about what you feel. Here’s an often-overlooked tip: Your book design should 𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐫 𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 your target reader. Every element of a book’s design, from the cover to the interior layout, can amplify the emotional journey of the writer and reader. The choice of colors, typography, and even the spacing can evoke specific feelings—whether it’s the warmth of nostalgia, the tension of suspense, or the calm of reflection. A well-designed book doesn’t just present a story; it invites the reader to feel the story on a deeper level, enhancing the connection between the reader and the narrative. When the design of your book aligns with its voice and tone, it creates a seamless experience that draws readers in and keeps them engaged. It’s not just about aesthetics; it’s about invoking an emotional resonance that makes the book unforgettable. Remember, great design is about more than just visuals—it’s about creating an emotional journey that complements and enhances the author’s voice. 📚 #BookDesign #Publishing #BookCoverDesign #IndieAuthors #DesignTips #PublishingIndustry #SelfPublishing #CreativeProcess #ProfessionalBookDesign #PublishingSuccess #AuthorSuccess #IndependentPublishing
