Thanks to Learners for putting together a stellar #UXRConf (yet again). I'm working on a two-part recap of the major themes and just published part one. Leaders like Marie Sbrocca and Sam Ladner, PhD discussed the importance of making UX research vital to the success of any business and shared two strategies for starting: ☝️Re-remember why UX exists: 1) to help the company make better decisions (via mitigating risk and highlighting opportunities) and 2) to measure progress, ensuring experiences and products are meeting goals. This exercise can help clarify (or reveal) what's important, giving us a map against which to plot our projects. ✌️Build a practice of strategic foresight to help companies anticipate and seize emergent opportunities. This involves focusing on our processes, scanning new areas for information (e.g., environmental, political), and organizing it into actionable knowledge baskets. With this, our insights have context and peek around corners. Jack of all, master of none. We always hear about being the best at one thing, mastering a skill that can make you an expert and pay you more. But is that really the only way? Last night, during a class with Anubhav Mishra from GrowthSchool , he said something that really resonated with me, something I believe is true. Knowing your craft is essential, but understanding the broader picture by learning related skills is what truly makes you a master. It not only makes you more intelligent but also allows you to see how everything connects and works together. In #ui_uxdesign, user empathy is key because we design for the users, and knowing what they do and how they do it is a crucial part of our #ux_research. So, why limiting yourself? Jotting down notes while learning has always been incredibly helpful for me. Personally, it makes it easier to retain information, and I can always go back to my notes whenever I forget something. Watching a recorded class can sometimes feel overwhelming, so I prefer to jot down the key points instead. One of the key takeaways from our first class in the UX Thrive case study bootcamp was the importance of having a well-structured case study in our portfolio. A strong case study should tell the story behind the project and showcase problem-solving skills, including identifying, analyzing, and creating solutions to meet the user's needs. 🌟 The Ultimate Kitchen Debate 🌟 I had a super fun time in a debate session organized by our mentor Anudeep Ayyagari (UX Anudeep) and GrowthSchool . We debated about the kitchen area, and who had the best unfair advantage won. It was a great experience with my new group mates. Also, it was an opportunity to learn to grow together. My Key Takeaways: Listening is Important 🎧 The biggest lesson I learned is that listening before responding is very important. Speak Your Heart Out 🗣️ Sometimes we hesitate to speak up, but saying what we truly feel makes everything easier. Take it Easy and Enjoy the Moment 😊 It was a fun session that reminded me to relax and enjoy the process. I have always believed that the best experiences come when we are having fun and not taking things too seriously. A big shoutout to GrowthSchool and Anudeep Ayyagari (UX Anudeep) for organizing this.
