"Positive experiences of PE at school can help develop life-long relationships with sport and physical activity." This was one of the phrases that struck me most from this announcement about investment in cricket last week. I totally agree, and sadly the converse is not only true but also one of the biggest reasons for adult inactivity. But does it matter what children play? Can playing any sport or activity result in a more active adulthood or do some sports "transfer" better? For example gymnastics is a very popular sport amongst children but almost none one does it once they reach adulthood. Whereas running, cycling and to a lesser extent swimming or all popular with almost every age group. Should we be investing in sports with more crossover between childhood and adulthood or is this irrelevant?
Department for Culture, Media and Sport have announced a £35 million investment in grassroots cricket which will help young people across the country participate in the sport🏏 The funding, administered by Sport England, will help to build 16 new cricket domes, extend school cricket programmes and support accessible cricket. This provides great insight into how to set up a cricket gear reuse scheme. Cricket equipment isn’t cheap, but can be used more than it is being used today. Reuse schemes make the game more accessible in local communities and start to tackle the excessive waste in a gear-heavy sport.

This initiative must be part of the imperative for sport to decarbonise itself. The issue of waste as it relates to sports apparel and equipment is largely ignored but it is a growing tidal wave of a problem. Set aside the grotesque, cynical overproduction of fan kit in the professional sporting arena and take a dive into recreational sport where all kit has a purpose and a role. But there is a huge amount of it that ends up in landfill, projects like these can reduce waste by repurposing, reusing, recycling as described below. Its but a step however the benefits of inclusion by making kit accessible to entry level participants and creating a sense of community are just some of the positive spin offs. Extending the life of kit and equipment and reducing waste and the carbon footprint of cricket (and sport) is equally crucial. If you can get involved or influence others to get involved, all the tools are above.

Learnings from SRH vs RCB match As bowlers if you give a lot of runs ( spend more than needed) , nobody can save you from losing. Sometimes even holding the best investments ( Kohli, Du plessis , D. Karthik) may not reach your goals if your spendings ( runs given)are high. At end end you realise that if had another over ( some more time) you might have met your goals( target of 288). Starting early with continuous momentum helps, be it investment or cricket.

Be a mental health hero T10 Cricket Championships, Saturday May 25th, 9 pm – 4 pm, Conover Cricket Grounds No matter which team wins or loses, which player scores highest runs or gets most wickets, the winner of this Cricket charity tournament will be the most vulnerable folks of our community. This year’s annual township T10 championship is to raise funds for mental health and suicide prevention. The beneficiary organization is Attitudes-In-Reverse, who are there literally day and night to answer the call for help from people who are at the verge of giving up their last ray of hope. Like the past few years of championships, there are two groups of three local teams. Let me introduce the Group A teams. Coincidentally, Group A has the tournament champions of the year 2023 (PJCC lead by Murali Duvapu) and 2022 champions (Penns Neck Farmers lead by Amit Murumkar and Irfan Ali) 1. Princeton Junction Cricket Club. Captain: Murali Duvapu (2023 Champions) 2. Dutch Neck Firebrands. Captain: Vineet Anand 3. Penns Neck Farmers. Captain: Irfan Ali (2022 Champions) As a reminder, these six teams represent the six historic settlements that form West Windsor township in its current form (map attached). Please donate generously for this noble cause of suicide prevention and mental health. The Communal Impact of Cricket Cricket is more than just a sport; it's a powerful catalyst for social and cultural progress, promoting unity and fostering positive change across the globe. As an international language, cricket bridges divides, bringing together people from different backgrounds in a shared passion for the game, whether in urban parks, bustling streets, or rural villages. It plays a crucial role in integrating communities, with local cricket clubs serving as hubs for social interaction, encouraging a sense of belonging and solidarity. Cricket also champions diversity and inclusion, providing a platform for underrepresented groups to shine and challenging societal stereotypes. Beyond the pitch, the cricketing community engages in philanthropy and social responsibility, tackling issues like poverty, health, and education through community initiatives and fundraising efforts. In essence, cricket's cultural significance extends far beyond the boundaries of the sport, uniting communities and driving societal harmony and inclusivity for future generations.
