🏗️ The United Nations estimates that by 2050 more than 80% of the world’s population will live in cities. In today's rapidly urbanising world, owners and developers of infrastructure and buildings face a monumental challenge: ensuring that the future is built sustainably while ensuring value for money. One answer lies in adopting a comprehensive framework for the sustainable procurement of green building materials. The construction industry accounts for approx. 30-40% of carbon emissions globally. Buildings are being designed to consume less energy and offer healthier environments to their inhabitants but the materials and processes used to construct them are often antiquated and contribute greatly to GHG emissions. It's not an easy problem to solve because it requires buy-in from the entire supply chain from design through construction. Here are some guidelines to help. #construction #enegyefficientbuildings #climate #development #taxincentives #livingbuildings #greenbuilding

Highly sustainable buildings have been popping up around the U.S. and worldwide over the past decade. But now, a confluence of new technologies, improving economics, and climate-change-inspired government regulation are leading to the next wave in big construction: ultra-sustainable buildings. This new generation of green buildings is hitting environmental goals that would have seemed inconceivable just ten years ago—in some cases not just avoiding all harm to the environment but actually improving it, leading the communities and cities around these buildings down greener paths. 👏 The motivation to use ultra-sustainable ideas in new commercial development—as well as to retrofit existing buildings to make them more sustainable—is economics. The costs of green technologies have been rapidly dropping. Read more: https://lnkd.in/g-GtGmfw #sustainability #greenbuilding

Have you ever wondered how buildings can be more than just structures? Let's explore how green building aligns with the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to tackle global challenges head-on. Green buildings aren't just about construction; they create healthier, more inclusive communities. They promote good health and well-being by improving indoor environments, contribute to affordable and clean energy through efficiency and renewables, and drive economic growth by creating jobs and inclusive opportunities. Moreover, they are vital in building resilient infrastructure, fostering sustainable cities, and promoting responsible consumption and production patterns. With over 30% of global greenhouse gas emissions attributed to buildings, green building is also a powerful tool in combating climate change. Let's embrace green building practices to unlock the potential for a sustainable future. Whether you're a developer, policymaker, or advocate, join the movement towards green building and sustainable development. Share your thoughts on how green building can drive positive change and inspire action towards a greener, more sustainable future! #Sustainability #SDGs Source: World Green Building Council

Going green makes good financial sense. According to a CBRE report, Green Buildings can reduce electricity bills by 20-30% and lower water supply costs by 30-50% through efficient designs and sustainable features. As we strive towards a greener and more sustainable future, homeowners and businesses can look forward to lower utility bills while supporting environmentally responsible construction. #UrbainiaSpaces #UrbainaTrinityExt #GreaterNoidaWest #SustainableBuildings #GreenBuildings #GreenOfficeSpaces #SustainableRealEstate #ESGInvesting #EnvironmentalResponsibility #SocialResponsibility #GovernanceGoals #InvestmentOpportunities #IndianRealEstate #DemandGrowth #ESGGoals #WorldEnvironmentDay #WorldEnvironmentDay2024

2.5 billion Urban populations are anticipated to increase by 2.5 billion by 2050, causing greater demand for new buildings. At the same time, buildings are playing a huge role in greenhouse gas emissions. How can the building sector address this? Although more than 140 countries have announced or are considering net zero targets, many still lack concrete quantitative targets and monitoring mechanisms for decarbonizing buildings at the local level. What is needed are: · New technologies · New processes and procedures · Good innovative projects and case studies · Innovative, forward-thinking in all stages of a project lifecycle · New initiatives and public-private partnerships. What would you add? How can we build more sustainable buildings and cities? https://lnkd.in/dpNvcwhP Josh Harbert Kammy Sanghera Lori Ziolkowski Kimberly Cheslak Susan Heinking AIA, LEED Fellow Tommy Linstroth Lucas Joppa John Messner

Great week so far in the #cityoflondon. With back to back meetings discussing topics including retrofit projects and sustainability construction planning within the #squaremile. The Carbon Smart Limited input and value has been focused on driving down energy use within tenanted commercial buildings. Helping landlords achieve best in class standards for occupiers, utilising some very basic changes that compound to make a big difference. With 37% of GHG emissions coming from the built environment, we need to work even closer to share, collaborate and succeed in making change happen 🏢 🌍 #cityoflondon #buildingstandards #environmental #sustainability #carbonreduction #commercialbuildings #workingtogether #tacklingclimatechange

C40 Cities has published a new report and developed a new tool that allows owners and operators of buildings to quantify how retrofits can reduce emissions while improving occupiers' health and productivity. Buildings account for a third of GHG emissions in C40 cities, but that figure increases to 70% for many cities in the Global North. Our latest work showcases measures that reduce that carbon impact while boosting well-being. We spend 90% of our time indoors, which means that the state of our buildings has a major impact on our physical and mental health. Thank you Mariana Nicolletti, Felipe Gaudereto, Honorine van den Broek d'Obrenan, Kauê Braga, Christina Lumsden, Pegah Noori khah, Paulina Lis, Frankie Downy, Irene Skoula for all the work and VELUX for the funding that enabled it, along with expert input from Jens Christoffersen and Lucile Sarran! Renovations of the existing building stock remain a challenge (duh!). One way to make a stronger case for policy and projects is to tap into the multiple benefits that retrofits can deliver: reducing energy/carbon, costs, and improving indoor environments for people. If you work with these topics, especially in the context of cities make sure to take a look at this latest work from C40 Cities and VELUX. The summary report (for the lingo, data, cases, etc.) and the two accompanying tools (vulnerability mapping and benefits of retrofits) can give you a great start into retrofit strategy 🏚 🌍 ⚡
