Bridge – Arkadiko Greece . . . ©Arkadiko Mycenaean Bridge II Oldest: Mycenaean Bridge at Kazarma . . . approximate Date: 1,300-1,200 BC. This bridge was built more than 3,000 years ago but is still used by modern Greeks. The arch bridge is an impressive feat of engineering, as it doesn't use any type of adhesive to hold itself together. It was also built with curbs, presumably to keep speeding chariots from falling off. The Arkadiko Bridge or Kazarma Bridge is a Mycenaean bridge near the modern road from Tiryns to Epidauros in Argolis on the Peloponnese, Greece. The stone crossing, which is dated to the Greek Bronze Age, is one of the oldest crossable arch bridges still in existence. It is the oldest preserved bridge in Europe.

Library at Mafra National Palace, Portugal 🇵🇹 The Rococo library, situated at the back of the second floor, is truly the highlight of this palace, rivalling the grandeur of the library of the Melk Abbey in Austria. Built by Manuel Caetano de Sousa, this library is 88 m long, 9.5 m wide and 13 m high. The magnificent floor is covered with tiles of rose, grey and white marble. The wooden bookshelves in Rococo style are situated on the sidewalls in two rows, separated by a balcony with a wooden railing. They contain over 36,000 leather-bound volumes, attesting to the extent of western knowledge from the 14th to the 19th century. Among them, are many valuable bibliographical jewels, such as incunabula. These beautiful finished volumes were bound in the local workshop (Livraria) in the rocaille style (also by Manuel Caetano de Sousa). The library is known for homing bats which protect the books from insect damage. The Library was used in Gulliver's Travels (1996) as the Great Chamber of War for the Emperor of Lilliput. #wealth #power #money #financing #investment #realestate #funding #vc #energy #fdi #growth #country #equity #fund #ZabCapitalHoldings

Interesting recent opinion piece from the Bangkok Post. Enhancing ancient ruins has become the regional standard. Conservation projects build up the sites and fill in the gaps, whether this involves stone, laterite, brick, plaster or wood. The most architecturally iconic elements are especially likely to be fixed up to look complete and intact. Sometimes, structures are reconstructed from scratch. Instead of ensuring historical accuracy, officials favour creating a visually impressive experience that they hope will bolster tourism and business. But this intervention deprives visitors of the opportunity to experience a true sense of the past. Instead of trying to captivate visitors with aesthetics, the focus should be on restoring a site carefully and accurately. This empowers visitors to understand the meaning of the place and history. #southeastasia #culturalheritage #archaeology #conservation #restoration #culturaltourism Feng JING (景 峰)Duong Bich Hanh Gregory Galligan, PhD Kreangkrai Kirdsiri Jaturong Pokharatsiri Peou HANG Mario Santana Quintero Clara Rellensmann Hiram Ting 陳芳堯 Lenny Y Aaron Tham Rohit Jigyasu Johannes WIDODO Hasti Tarekat Dipowijoyo KIAN BOON TIONG Faisal Abd Rahman John Peterson Walter Jamieson FCIP Richard Adams Engelhardt
