Movember is more than just growing a mustache; it's about promoting longer, healthier lives for men. In the United States, men face a significant gap in life expectancy compared to women, with men dying about six years earlier on average. Heart disease and cancer stand as the leading causes of death for men, with tobacco use, unhealthy weight, and alcohol consumption ranking as the top risky behaviors. The global Movember campaign challenges men to embrace facial hair during November, aiming to raise awareness about prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental health issues. Encouraging open conversations about health is a key focus, urging men to engage with healthcare providers and support each other. To support men's health, here are some essential tips: - Know your numbers and risks: Discuss prostate health with your provider, especially if you're 50 or older. Black men and those with family histories of prostate cancer are at higher risk. - Help your heart and stay active: Maintain a healthy weight, cholesterol, and blood pressure levels. Incorporate more physical activity into your daily routine. - Be aware of testicular health: Regularly check your testicles and seek medical advice if something feels unusual. - Stay connected and communicate: Regularly connect with friends, offer support during tough times, and prioritize meaningful conversations. - Seek assistance: For tobacco cessation support, reach out through various channels. If dealing with substance use or addiction, Oregon's 24/7 Alcohol & Drug Helpline offers compassionate help and local resources. For additional support, Oregon Health & Science University provides a virtual monthly support group for men impacted by prostate cancer. Contact 503-346-0548 or email christc@ohsu.edu for more information. Let's work together to prioritize men's health and well-being. #Movember #MensHealth

🌟 When I lost my mother to cancer, I saw the gaps in cancer recovery care up close. 🌟 Most people battling cancer take care of their nutrition based on hearsay, and their fitness and mental well-being are often completely neglected. Worse, they find themselves feeling isolated—old friends don’t treat them the same, and they lack a community that understands them without drowning them in sympathy. Celebrities, on the other hand, spend lakhs every month on specialized experts—nutritionists, fitness trainers, and mental health therapists—ensuring every aspect of their recovery is supported. But this level of care shouldn't only be available to a few. That’s why we created Femease Our oncology-focused wellness plans bring together onco-specialized experts in nutrition, fitness, mental health, and more, to provide cancer survivors with affordable, personalized care. We offer more than just guidance—we create a supportive community that empowers women to rebuild their lives post-treatment. ✨ No one should walk the cancer recovery journey alone. With Femease survivors get the expert care they deserve—without breaking the bank. 💬 How has your support system played a role in your health journey? Let’s start a conversation! #CancerRecovery #OncologyWellness #Femease #HolisticCare #SupportForSurvivors #AffordableWellness #CommunityHealing #PreventRelapse

It’s Men’s Health Week this week… With so many men suffering in silence and not knowing where to turn it often feels very lonely and shameful to speak up. Although it is getting a lot better men often feel ashamed to show their true authentic self through fear of ridicule or showing weakness. I have been there, I have been through tough and dark times, I often cry and I often question myself. I also have a very understanding wife, friends that have supported, colleagues that allowed me to be me and many coping mechanisms… but many don’t! We need to continue to challenge toxic masculinity and reduce the stigma by creating open and honest spaces for men to talk. The statistics are alarming with 4 in 5 suicides being men and suicide being the biggest cause of death under 35. This years primary focus is around Prostate Cancer, 1 in 8 men will get this in their lifetime and it is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in men. If found early then it is very treatable so don't be ashamed to discuss with your doctor or get checked out (on my list to do this month). If you have read this far take the time to reach out to someone to say hi, ask them how they are… more than once (you often have to ask 2 or 3 times to get the real response) and show them you are there if they ever need to talk. If you are a man that is lost, needs some help or just want a chat then let me me know by commenting, linking with me or messaging me directly. #menshealthweek #GoodtoTalk #Brotherhood #LetsTalk #wellbeing #MentalHealth

The term ‘𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫’ is what everybody dreads. Be it the patient or the caregiver or even family members. The reason being, that cancer is not just a chronic disease that creates biologically impaired cells in the body, but it also brings along some emotions that overwhelms the ones who experience it. The fear of pain, the fear of chemotherapy and the one fear that comes with the diagnosis and treatment of cancer is ‘𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬' The financial burden often falls heavily on the breadwinner, creating additional stress for the entire family. The feelings of anxiety around finances impacts the cancer patient’s family in numerous ways like; 𝐋𝐢𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐲𝐥𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬: Families may need to cut back on luxuries or educational opportunities for their children 𝐑𝐨𝐥𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬: The financial stress can cause changes in family roles 𝐐𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞: Patients who experience financial hardship may have a lower quality of life All of these could be managed better with the support of medical insurances that have cancer covers, and also if the caregivers of the patient are constantly in touch with an emotional wellness coach, the negative affective symptoms experienced during these times could also be balanced more mindfully. 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐰𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐢𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐬 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐄𝐅𝐓 𝐭𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐝𝐚𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬. #CancerSupport #CancerAwareness #CancerCare #WellnessJourney #EmotionalHealth #MentalHealthMatters #ResilienceInCancer #CancerCaregivers #SurvivorStrong #FinancialWellness #MindfulHealing
