Katie P.’s Post

“He seems like a nice guy”—words that fuel my drive to advocate for others and increase understanding. This phrase reflects a bias that prioritises appearances over the victim's account, often leading to victim blaming. Such responses invalidate victims and discourage them from seeking help, increasing their isolation. Abusers often present a charming public persona, making it hard for others to believe the victim. This gap between public image and private behavior highlights the need for law enforcement training on abuse dynamics. By taking all reports seriously and creating a supportive environment, authorities can help ensure victims feel believed and supported. When someone discloses abuse to the police, officers should respond with empathy, support, and validation. They must listen attentively and most importantly, avoid judgment. Creating a safe, non-threatening environment which encourages victims to share their experiences without fear, helping progress in investigations and building trust in the justice system. #EndVictimBlaming #BreakTheSilence #AdvocateForChange #StopAbuse #SurvivorSupport #EndAbuse #StopTheCycle #TraumaInformed #SurvivorVoices #SafeReporting
