I was once asked in an interview, "If you were starting a Social Media team from scratch, what roles would you need to hire for?"
Of course, the answer is based on a variety of factors (budget, platforms, expectations, company goals, number of brands, etc.), but here's my quick list:
- Social Media Strategist (Team lead)
- Social Media Manager
- Content Creators/Editors (2x)
- Analytics lead
- Community Manager
- Paid Social expert
Of course, you can go external and hire agencies for some of the roles, if you have the budget. And Paid Social is sometimes a different team.
But here's the thing...If you're not properly staffing your Social Media team, and asking 1-2 people to do ALL of this, you're simply a dinosaur...and your competitors are likely staffing correctly.
Social Media is a company's most powerful tool...if they know how to use it right.
