Arginine vasopressin production and action in the kidney. Antidiuretic hormone (ADH), otherwise known as arginine vasopressin (AVP), is synthesized in the hypothalamus as a prehormone and stored in vesicles within the posterior pituitary. Secretion of AVP from the posterior pituitary is stimulated by increasing plasma osmolality sensed by osmoreceptors in the hypothalamus or decreased total circulating plasma volume distal tubule and the collecting ducts. Here AVP interacts with its receptor (V2) and via a cascade of events facilitates the transient insertion of water channels (aquaporin-2) which increases the permeability of these epithelial cells to water. By an independent pathway, AVP also regulates urea transport within the inner medullary collecting duct. AVP results in an increase in transepithelial transport of urea, important for maintenance of the urea gradient. Maintenance of the osmotic gradient is dependent on the counter-current multiplier system between the loop of Henle and the vasa recta. #Nephrology #Pethealth #Petmedicine #Petphysiology #Petlife

I'm happy to share the publication of my master's paper titled "Intrinsic motoneuron properties in typical human development" in the Journal of Physiology. Our study delves into the fascinating realm of human motoneuron firing behavior across different developmental stages, shedding light on crucial insights from childhood to adulthood. Through meticulous single motor unit recordings, we examined how intrinsic motoneuron properties evolve over time, offering valuable implications for understanding dysfunction post early brain injury.
