⭐ Wrapping up my first four weeks as Chief of Staff at Ecosystems.io, and wow—what an experience it’s been! ⭐ Here are a few things I've learned so far: 1. Culture is Everything – Watching the team rally together to prepare for our Community Conference right as I started was an incredible introduction. It’s hard not to get sucked into the magic of being part of a culture that strives to provide an A+ experience. 2. Exploring the Depth of Value – I've been learning about the true meaning of "Value" and realizing how deep that concept goes. It’s more than just a buzzword—it’s a philosophy that drives more from everything we do. 3. The Ecosystem of Ecosystems – Getting to know the intricate network of relationships, teams, and partnerships has been eye-opening. It’s inspiring to see how everything connects to create impact. 4. Embracing the Unknown – Coming into a new role means I don’t (yet!) have all the answers, and that’s okay. Embracing what I don’t know is helping me grow and ask the right questions. 5. “New Kid” Perspective – I’ll only be the “new kid on the block” once, so I’m leaning into it! Taking this time to learn as much as I can, and bring a fresh perspective wherever possible. 🌱 Here’s to many more weeks of learning, growing, and creating value with an incredible team!🐟

Starting off our #MeetTheTeam series is our Head of Engineering Matt Johnston. 🔷 How long have you been with Thrive? I joined Thrive last August, so its been just under a year now! (just in time for our Team Volunteering Day) 🔷 What is your role? Head of Engineering. I spearhead the development team, ensuring we build features that meet customer needs while prioritising and implementing robust security measures to keep our platform safe. One of my areas of focus is on enhancing the user experience to ensure we keep the product simple and efficient to use. 🔷Why did you join Thrive? I was driven to join Thrive by the desire to make a significant contribution. Their commitment to social impact and partnering with customers aligned perfectly with my values. Additionally, the company's culture of innovation and fostering creative thinking was incredibly appealing. 🔷What do you find most enjoyable about your job? The constant push for innovation is what truly energises me. Every day brings fresh challenges and a chance to unleash creative problem-solving, constantly redefining what's achievable. But the most rewarding aspect is seeing the positive impact on our customers. By delivering valuable solutions that simplify social value reporting, we empower them to make a real difference. 🔷 Tell us an interesting or fun fact about you outside of work? Outside of work, I keep myself busy with various hobbies. I'm always eager to learn something new, and right now, AI has really captured my interest. Master these three things, and you can start any project anywhere. 1. Dream Big - Aim for the stars to reach the sky. 2. Start Small - Your first step doesn’t have to be a giant leap. 3. Expect Modest Outcomes - see progress as a marathon, not a sprint. Nothing keeps you from starting, like the desire to start from the top and expect to have the same results as those who started before you already. It's a new week, another time to start that project. We learned a tough lesson at Curious Cardinals: being afraid to set rules can cost you enormously. We tried to make remote-hybrid work... well, work. We bent over backwards to accommodate everyone, thinking flexibility was the key to happiness. We were wrong. The truth? When you try to please everyone, you end up pleasing no one - and wasting precious time and resources in the process. Our solution? We're now fully committing to building Curious Cardinals in NYC and SF in addition to maintaining team retreats, bringing everyone together, 2x per year. Yes, this means saying goodbye to some fantastic candidates elsewhere. It stings, but it's a necessary pain. The takeaway? If you have core values, enforce them. Create clear expectations. Accept that not everyone will align with your vision - and that's okay. Once you find the team that aligns, you'll avoid a cascade of issues that stem from trying to be all things to all people.
