As the global community works toward net-zero emissions, the nuclear energy solutions of tomorrow should be powered by Canadian innovation and know-how. Spearheaded by The Right Honourable Jean Chretien and former Ontario Premier Mike Harris, today we’ve launched the “Canadians for CANDU” campaign that calls on the federal and provincial governments to support the only made-in-Canada nuclear technology on the market. Learn how we’re partnering with industry leaders, members of the domestic supply chain, academics, and citizens here: #EngineeringABetterFuture #CanadiansForCANDU #NetZeroNeedsNuclear

Plans are moving ahead for the reopening of the Palisades nuclear power plant. While a positive step by the federal government in granting loan guarantees, where is the green lobby's support to expand the nuclear fleet? It's long past time for US industries to get behind the SMR concept, they drive the need and are best positioned to make future nuclear power a success. https://lnkd.in/evzemWWd

As the Original Equipment Manufacturer of CANDU technology, explaining the merits of nuclear power is an important part of my job at AtkinsRéalis, and one I enjoy. Increasingly, journalists have taken an interest in the technology; the nuclear renaissance, the energy transition, and government interest in life extension of CANDU assets or even in building new ones, likely explains why. In speaking to Paul Day from Reuters, I explained the unique features of CANDU technology that lend themselves well to life-extensions (think of replacing the engine in a really good car). I also had the chance to talk about our new, 1,000 MW CANDU MONARK reactor- the most powerful and advanced CANDU unit ever conceived. https://lnkd.in/gGgEbgpS #CANDUforCanada #NetZeroNeedsNuclear

A very thoughtful article by Herbert Smith Freehills that questions the push for SMR (nuclear) in the Australian context. Combined with the recent CSRIO Gen Cost report of comparative energy costs, it raises several interesting hurdles for those championing a nuclear future as part of Australia's energy mix. https://lnkd.in/gy5KStKA

AI changes nuclear power strategies! After being decommissioned, the Three Miles Island Nuclear Power Plant, infamous for its nuclear incident, will be restarted due to the growing need for a stable power source to run AI servers. Microsoft is ready to finance 20-years long contract for the green energy supply from this source. Wonder what will be the next similar cases.... Germany? 🤔 #NuclearEnergy #ArtificialIntelligence #Sustainability #EnergyTransition https://lnkd.in/dfuFKEmA

Two big nuclear power announcements from the White House today: 1) the creation of a top level working group, which is a good idea as long as the government can stay efficient, and 2) the Army is putting out a Request for Information to build a reactor at an Army base. Go Army! (but you'll still never beat the nuclear Navy)
