I have observed that some institutions declare vacancy for a particular position every year. I mean declaring vacancy for almost all positions every year should be a huge red-flag to jobseekers, shouldn't it? Is it that the school never gets to fill those positions with substantive teachers, or the school is always growing in number, hence the need to bring on board additional teachers every academic year? Or is it actually an issue of lack of retainment strategy and policy by the school, hence they keep looking for new teachers each year because teachers keep leaving the school? Is it an issue of poor recruitment strategy, where they realise their new staffers do not meet the advertised expectations, or that the teachers always decide to leave the school after the first year with them? As an employee who was a job-seeker, I am able to relate with the desperation on the side of jobseekers, a desperation that blinds us from seeing such disturbing trends in certain institutions. My recommendation to all jobseekers is to ensure they check the employee-retainment records of potential employers before making that big move. Inasmuch as it is important to find a job to keep your life together, working in a safe, stress-free environment, with the right policies and practices in place by the employers to train, improve and enhance your qualities and skills for longevity and productivity must be as important to you as well.
