In a world where consumption patterns significantly impact the environment and society, Goal 12 calls for sustainable consumption and production patterns by 2030. 📊 Why is Goal 12 crucial? 1. Waste Generation: According to the World Bank, global waste generation is expected to increase from 2.01 billion metric tons in 2016 to 3.40 billion metric tons by 2050 if current consumption and production patterns continue unchecked. Goal 12 addresses the urgent need to reduce waste generation, promote recycling and reuse, and minimize resource consumption to mitigate environmental degradation. 2. Food Waste: The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) estimates that approximately one-third of all food produced for human consumption is lost or wasted each year, amounting to about 1.3 billion metric tons.
