#APM (Automated People Movers) are featured by many large international airports to transport passengers between terminals or within a terminal itself. APMs are well-suited for this purpose as they offer frequent service on an around-the-clock basis, enhancing their attractiveness to riders. APM technology has already proven its merit at many #airports, #amusement_centers, and full-scale #driverless #metros abroad. The potential of APMs in enabling more fluid circulation in the public urban environment is obvious. Some people mover systems at airports even connect with other public transportation systems to allow passengers to travel into the airport's city. With their exclusive rights-of-way and driverless operation, APMs provide unimpeded service, making them a reliable and efficient transportation option. We're advising leading transport operator FirstGroup plc on its acquisition of RATP Dev Transit London from French transport group RATP Développement SA, for an enterprise value of £90 million. Via its bus division, First Bus, FirstGroup is one of the largest regional bus companies in the UK, and a leading operator in the majority of its local areas, including major urban centres such as Glasgow, Bristol and Leeds. The acquisition of RATP London, as one of the principal bus operators in London, will deliver a c12% share of the London bus market. TRANSACTION NEWS: RATP Dev, the subsidiary of RATPgroup, has agreed to sell its London bus operations, RATP Dev Transit London (RDTL), to FirstGroup plc, one of the largest regional bus operators in the United Kingdom.

Positive news this week as EMR has announced a £60 million programme to refurbish its electric Class 360 fleet which operates EMR Connect and Luton Airport Express services between Corby and London St Pancras stopping at Kettering, Wellingborough, Bedford, Luton and Luton Airport Parkway. Improving the passenger experience is critical to ensuring more people choose to travel by train. We know the current quality of the provision has been an important issue for residents and elected representatives for some time and it is vital that the newly refurbished trains are in service as quickly as possible. At the same time, the new trains must consider the needs of all passengers, and we would expect that to include passengers who wish to use their time productively – this means high quality digital connectivity throughout journeys as well as the provision of facilities such as charge points and the provision of tables for laptops. Heathrow Airport signs deal to extend use of NATS’ capacity technology Heathrow Airport has signed a contract to extend and enhance their use of NATS’ Strategic Airport Capacity Management tool.  Strategic ACM is a technology enabled service that utilises advanced analytics – such as modelling and simulation – to create operations insights. The tool works by creating a digital twin of an airport to support critical runway scheduling decisions, enabling the airport and airlines to optimise schedules and ensure resilient and efficient operations. Evolving airline fleet mixes, constrained airport slot capacity and operating restrictions makes this a complex task at any airport, let alone the UK’s busiest and most capacity constrained.    Heathrow has been able to use Strategic-ACM to create two new arrival slots and, despite the downturn in traffic during global traffic restrictions, it has remained an essential tool for managing airport runway capacity. With global traffic now returning and even exceeding pre-Covid levels, Strategic-ACM will be crucial in supporting the airport operation and future schedule planning.   The three-year contract extension includes additional operational data analysis capability as well as the development of new environmental reporting capabilities, a key metric for both NATS and Heathrow in managing and further understanding the environmental impact of future operations.   Lucy Hodgson, capacity & planning lead at Heathrow Airport said: “With demand at Heathrow stronger than ever, it is an exciting time to be working alongside NATS to strengthen our capability in runway capacity related decisions. Having the ability to assess a range of options against a variety of assumptions very quickly, whilst incorporating the experience of NATS colleagues as well as their wealth of operational data, allows us to be confident our schedules can be safely and efficiently delivered.”  Analysing operational data provides valuable insights into a number of critical areas. For example, air traffic control workload can be linked to runway and taxiway demand. Throughput and delay can also be simulated based on weather, network restrictions and new airline routes. In addition, stand availability can be modelled to show the effects of evolving airline fleets as well as demand patterns.  Strategic-ACM provides actionable insights based on impartial, data-driven capacity and performance analysis to declare the existing and future capacity of runways. S-ACM increases confidence in safety, optimises delivery and maximises benefits for all stakeholders at the airport. Digitalisation is the key to helping operators handle busier stations. Our @siemensmobility Digital Station and Power Manager (DSPM) technology is helping the rail industry to adapt to the changing passenger landscape. The railway is seeing a growth in leisure travel and a decline in commuter journeys, particularly on some days of the week.
