Great News for the Midlands Rail Hub 👏 Extra trains to the county are planned as part of £123 million in funding announced by the Government. The funding, will be used to help deliver the Midlands Rail Hub which is a transformational upgrade project to improve transport across the region and beyond, boosting the capacity and frequency of rail services for passengers. The first phase of the Midlands Rail Hub, will mean an additional train every hour in both directions between central Birmingham and Worcester. The hub will see increased frequency for the Redditch Cross City service to three trains per hour, and an increase to four trains per hour between Bromsgrove and Birmingham. There will also be an additional train every hour on the Birmingham to Cardiff service, via Worcestershire Parkway. The investment is part of the government’s Network North Transport Plan, which committed £1.75 billion to deliver the Midlands Rail Hub in full. #midlands #rail #news #investment

Grand Central has submitted its application to the rail regulator, the Office for Rail and Road (ORR), to extend its track access rights in Yorkshire and the North East beyond 2027. If approved, this will secure Grand Central’s long-term future in the region. Grand Central links 15 destinations to London King’s Cross, and is the only operator to connect underserved areas like Sunderland, Halifax, Hartlepool, and Pontefract directly to London. #railnews #railways #ukrail #rail 

Passengers from the southeast #Irish port of #Rosslare could be forced to change trains on the way to #Dublin. Growing traffic from the port and enhancements to the metro service around the Irish capital could leave through services struggling for train paths. A solution has been proposed by the Irish Government, which would require long-distance passenger trains to terminate outside the city, and for passengers to use the capital region’s metro trains to complete their journeys. #railfreight #railfreightnews #railcargonews

Northern Powerhouse Rail link between Liverpool and Manchester progresses The next steps of development for the Liverpool to Manchester section of Northern Powerhouse Rail (NPR) have been announced following extensive engagement with local leaders and MPs. This latest iteration identifies a primary route option serving both Warrington Bank Quay and Manchester Airport, broadly confirming the previously proposed route. Northern Powerhouse Rail aims to be a catalyst for economic growth across the North by transforming east-west transport links and better connecting people to work, education and business opportunities. Once delivered, passengers will benefit from quicker, more frequent services, which could see journey times cut by around a third, meaning the route between Liverpool and Manchester Piccadilly would be reduced from around 50 minutes to 35 minutes. And with more frequent services it will also mean passengers are able to turn up and go, knowing the next train will only be 10 to 15 minutes away. Capacity could also be trebled between Liverpool and Leeds, offering 2,100 extra seats per hour in each direction.
