An interesting article on ABC yesterday, highlighting the not so secret war at the depths of our oceans, all focused around the fibre cables, the plumbing of the internet between countries. I am interested in the possible lack of end-to-end High Speed Encryption here and the missed opportunity to share the need for Security around the infrastructure, where this all leads to. https://lnkd.in/gTNAgxjZ

Why do submarine cables and all digital infrastructure end up like we see today? It started in 2017 when the United States removed Chinese gear from the Digital Infrastructure. Everything that you see flows from this US initiative. The whole submarine cable topology started changing. There were submarine cables connecting China and the US, but not anymore. Submarine cables started being re-routed to Australia and the country became a data repository. How will the Digital infrastructure evolve? The Digital Infrastructure is being fine-tuned to adapt to the Clean Network. Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTNs) are part of this strategy. Even if a submarine cable is cut, strategic and mission-critical data is rerouted to satellites on the fly. We all know that #bufferbloat (#latency, #jitter) problem exist(s), but yet we keep hearing from all the places, that it either doesn't exist, or if it even exist, it doesn't matter. All the #WiFi, #5G, #fiber or #Starlink, #SatelliteInternet professionals been there and heard this. Rich Brown recently managed to summarize many of the nonsensical replies we all are getting from vendors, #ISPs, journalists, tech guys and people working in 3 letter agencies, that are regulating #Internet and networking worldwide, on one of the bufferbloat mailing lists, about Starlink.
