The revolution of vacationing lies in: Homestays. Can the village/rural area make the most of it? The Uttar Pradesh government unveiled a Rural Tourism Development Strategy to boost rural tourism in September 2024. The plan includes initially developing tourism infrastructure and homestays in 93 villages. Key areas include Ayodhya, Varanasi, Lucknow, Devipatan, and Chitrakoot divisions. Uttar Pradesh’s tourism and culture minister, Jaiveer Singh announced a pact with Beayweaver Nests for boosting homestays as well. I believe this is a great way to localise the experience of a vacation while generating revenue for the localities. With the younger generation travelling on a budget and preferring Hostels to stay in, homestays can be a great addition to this. Tourism activities temporarily banned in Kerala's coastal areas: Precautions to take Due to the rough seas experienced in many coastal areas of Kerala, beach tourism activities have been halted in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, and Thrissur districts. The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS), a central government agency that issues weather warnings for fishermen in the country, has found that as a result of the low-pressure system moving into the Indian Ocean, very high waves -- which reached 11 meters at some places -- were created and reached the Kerala coast. The waves, known as the 'swell surge' or 'kallakkadal' (as it is locally known), are likely to continue on the eastern coast of India (Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal) and Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The term 'kallakkadal' literally means a sea which comes suddenly like a thief. Vijendra Yadav, Airport Manager and ATC in charge at Lilabari highlighted the positive developments at the airport in a conversation with ANI. “We’ve witnessed a marked increase in passenger numbers, from 33,000 last year to over 39,000 this year. Lilabari Airport has handled more than 1,100 flights in 2024,” Yadav said. He emphasized that the airport’s growing infrastructure, under the UDAN initiative, is transforming regional development by making smaller towns like Lilabari more accessible and promoting economic growth. Yadav further explained how the Lilabari Airport has contributed to the region’s economic upliftment and tourism. By offering convenient travel options, the airport has shortened travel times, which has had a positive impact on local tourism. “The terminal’s seating capacity has been expanded to accommodate the growing number of passengers,” he noted.
