On a bit of a LinkedIn roll at the moment, but this article with NHS Confederation is something I'm really passionate about. There are massive savings for the NHS in consolidation its IT and Digital estate, particularly systemically. But it's not all straightforward. TLDR: IT is much easier than digital, and funnily enough I'd say consolidating EPRs is definitely one of the harder things to attempt. There are much easier candidates in commodity IT- networks, compute and devices. But the benefits of rationalisation isn't just financial, merging siloed teams enables much more flexible teams with expanded capacity and capabilities. There's not really many good reasons not to progress this agenda. Apart from local politics of course 😊

There are valid points in Thomas’ post here. How is it that banks, other large companies can run from standardised hardware? Central solutions for Cyber, everyone hitting top level, single group buy on devices, servers, etc. all could be at ICB level- if you have knowledgable, experienced people and good governance.

For an NHS that meets the needs of today's society: Care needs to be integrated and community-focused (this means investment in primary care and rethinking new models of care). We need capital investment (we cannot continue with outdated equipment and buildings in disarray). We need investment in digital infrastructure And finally, we have to tackle drivers of poor health. And this will require policies and initiatives from within and outside of the NHS #NHSReforms #bbcnews

NHS England’s Frontline Digitisation programme was introduced in 2021 to support healthcare organisations and patients to have access to digital health service services and the data they need to manage and improve health and wellbeing. Many ICSs have already begun to see benefits including freeing up staff time and encouraging collaborative working with partners. The roll out of Electronic Patient Record (EPR) systems has forced trusts and the wider system to consider bringing clinical and administrative services together, however, transformation like this comes at a cost, and many say they are still not yet ready. In the 'Frontline digitisation: creating the conditions for a digital NHS' report, which we produced with NHS Confederation, ICS leaders told us that workforce and training were significant barriers to providing and delivering a quality frontline digitalised service. 🚨 Greater investment in digital technology needed to enhance productivity urges NHS Providers 🚨 NHS Providers is urging the UK government to invest in digital technology to enhance productivity, following a survey of NHS trust leaders. Published on 8th September 2024, the survey highlights financial challenges driven by inflation, industrial action, and operational pressures. Over half of respondents (51%) expressed extreme concern about meeting operational priorities within their 2024/25 financial budgets and 92% felt the efficiency challenges were tougher than the previous year. Trusts are struggling to meet recovery targets, with only 8% of respondents confident about reducing mental health service wait times, and 46% expecting to meet A&E targets. Sir Julian Hartley, CEO of NHS Providers, emphasised the need for strategic investment in digital infrastructure to boost efficiency and drive long-term productivity. The findings come ahead of a review by Lord Ara Darzi, which is expected to evaluate NHS productivity and highlight concerns about children's health. Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has highlighted the role previous governments have played in the current state of the NHS. Factors such as resource limitations, frontline workforce pressures, and the relentless demands of an evolving health crisis are taking a toll. The resulting impact on patient experience is now reflected in survey numbers that cannot and should not be ignored.
