It Takes TWO

I am delighted to share that CooperVision and CooperVoice – Employee Forum have completed a two-year partnership and fundraising effort for Southampton Hospitals Charity – Southampton Children Hospital. With ALL our colleagues' generous support from Delta Park, MountPark, and Brunel Way, we raised an impressive £30,000 throughout many the series of events.   The team's dedication to making a difference in the lives of children and their families was recently celebrated in a discreet manner. Representatives from CooperVoice and the Distribution & Packaging Senior Managers Andrew Hinton and Gary Lonsdale presented the cheque to Beth Head of Charity Operations.   This success is a testament to the power of collective action to create positive change and inspire others to join in the spirit of giving. I am proud to be a part of this community of caring individuals who strive to make a difference in the world. I completely agree that it's too common for large organisations in the charity sector to take over contracts from small, community-led groups. This undermines the unique value these smaller organisations, driven by lived experience, bring. It's time for the government and stakeholders to recognise their importance and provide them with more leadership and representation opportunities. These grassroots organisations do the hard work and achieve the results, yet larger entities often take the credit and financial gains. Supporting and empowering small, lived experience organisations is crucial for fostering genuine community engagement and impactful services.

Here's a savvy tip for community groups, charities, businesses, and event planners: Establish an online space, like a Facebook Group or a community forum on your website, to foster connection and collaboration. Encourage members to share ideas, stay updated, and engage with one another. Building a vibrant online community not only Increases engagement but also opens doors to endless opportunities. This year, we were proud to support nine community organisations and projects across our neighbourhoods, from London to Maidenhead to Manchester, with a total of £80,000 in funding. Working with ActionFunder, a platform that brings responsible businesses together with non-profits to make change happen, our Inspiring Community funds help enact positive change in local communities by supporting upskilling, improving mental and physical health and providing greater access to cultural and environmental-led activities. Groups that received support this year include Friends of Maidenhead Waterway, a charity committed to improving access to the waterway for all; Mads do & Mend CIC, an organisation which empowers communities to mend clothes themselves through craft and creativity; Chobham Friends, the parent-teacher association for Chobham Academy primary at East Village and Foundation 92, which works with young people in Pendleton, Greater Manchester to provide upskilling and wellbeing opportunities.
