Considering the importance of agricultural circular economy to the world e.g. job creation, boosting economy and the impact on food security, it is always important to remind ourselves that, food security isn’t effective when food safety is left behind. Partnership with FAO Last week, Mars announced expansion of partnerships with FAO in food safety, supporting OneHealth initiative. This is a truly a new milestone to highlight how industry can collaborate with FAO in terms of sharing knowledge and expertise to support science-based food safety practice and promote the application of CODEX standards. I took a moment over the weekend to reflect on this journey since 2015. I am very humbled to play a very small part in some of the past collaborations between FAO and Mars alongside many Mars leaders, FAO senior officials, and experts from academia and industry. These include: -         Food Safety Coalition (2021-2022), where Mars convened the Food Safety Coalition to progress solutions in food safety, specifically data and knowledge sharing to address the challenge of aflatoxin contamination in raw materials. -         Future of Food Safety Summit (2021) -         FAO Investment Days (2019) -         Moving the Needle on Mycotoxin Prevention workshop (2018) -         Global Understanding of Food Fraud conference Beijing (2017) Food safety is a huge task, and no single entity can do it alone. It takes collaboration, dedication, and continuous efforts. I would like to take a moment and thank past and present colleagues at Mars: Robert Baker, David Crean, Abigail Stevenson, Rebecca Bieniaszewska, Susan Blount Matthews, Bethany Wolf, Maria Velissariou, Georgina Cuckston, Yueju Zhao, Jean-Christophe Flatin, Eva Hübner, Justina Raggett, Victor Nwosu, J .B. NEW RELEASE Food Security : Governor Adeleke Receives Report, Sets up Implementation Committee OSOGBO: 21/06/2024 - Osunstate.gov.ng Governor Ademola Adeleke has received the report of the food security committee he put in place to proffer solutions to various aspects of food security which include farm security, food pricing and availability as well as widening operating support and environment for farmers. Committee chairman and the Commissioner for Agriculture, Hon Tola Faseru who submitted the report to Governor Adeleke on Thursday evening at the Government House, said the report considered the pressing challenges of food security to make far reaching recommendations. The Committee Chairman who commended the foresight of Governor Adeleke said the 18 man committee Conducted spot survey and research to arrive at the recommendations which he described as actionable and implementable within a framework of short , medium and long term matrix. Responding , Governor Adeleke who described food security as the most pressing issue facing the nation noted that immediate action will be taken to implement the recommendations of the Committee. The Governor spoke further : “ I am directing the setting up of an implementation Committee under my Special Adviser on Agriculture. The committee whose members will be made public on monday must ensure immediate actions are taken on the recommendations. “ We cannot wait any longer. The issue of affordability and availability of food to our people cannot be treated with levity. We must support our people to survive this high inflation and emerging food insecurity”, the Governor while receiving the report. The committee chaired by the Commissioner for Agriculture, Hon Babatola Faseru had recommended a series of solutions to address food security challenges which are divided into short , medium and long term agenda. On farm security, the committee recommended the establishment of Farm Security Network comprising personnel from various security Agencies including Traditional leaders; integration of the services of local Vigilante and hunters; immediate education and training on farm security and pest control for farmers; strengthen collaboration between local and official security forces with knowledge of the region for farm protection; orientation Programme for Fulani and Farmers; introduction of border poisoning plants; introduction of physical measures to protect farm borders; launching of Community Based Security Intelligence Program and passing into law of Anti-Open Grazing bill Kindly click the link to learn more https://lnkd.in/dXarxynv
