Fridays are for Food Safety! 🥗 🦠🔬 As Earth Science Week comes to a close, ChemStation’s Eagle Team explores the connection between earth science and food safety. Earth's conditions are key in determining potential food safety risks. Environmental factors significantly impact the growth of crops and livestock, which can influence the presence of contaminants and pathogens in food. ChemStation provides environmental sanitation solutions with a refillable delivery system that eliminates potential environmental contamination from discarded containers. Technical Knowledge of Agriculture. Food Safety in Agriculture: 3 Key Principles As farmers, it's crucial to follow proper food safety practices to prevent foodborne illnesses. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the three key principles of food hygiene on the farm are: 1. Prevent Contamination: Avoid spreading pathogens from people, pets, and pests to food. 2. Store Food Properly: Keep food at the right temperature to prevent bacterial growth. 3. Use Safe Inputs: Ensure safe water and raw materials are used in food production. Additional best practices include: - Proper storage to prevent physical and biological contamination - Sanitary tools and workspaces - Adequate heating and cooling to safe temperatures By embracing these principles, we can ensure a safer food supply and promote a healthier community. Let's make agriculture a priority #AgricIsSexy #EmbraceAgriculture #YouthInAgriculture

Cases of foodborne illness often grab headlines, we see the devastating impact on the consumer, unfortunately, we often do not see the story behind the scenes. During food production, certain practices have over time been normalized as being "Okay". These practices are done without knowledge of the potential threat to the health of many. Swipe to see some of these practices and the truth behind them. Drop a comment with other practices/myths associated with food safety that should be stopped. #foodsafety #foodsecurity #agriculture #foodproduction #FutuX

Partnership with FAO Last week, Mars announced expansion of partnerships with FAO in food safety, supporting OneHealth initiative. This is a truly a new milestone to highlight how industry can collaborate with FAO in terms of sharing knowledge and expertise to support science-based food safety practice and promote the application of CODEX standards. I took a moment over the weekend to reflect on this journey since 2015. I am very humbled to play a very small part in some of the past collaborations between FAO and Mars alongside many Mars leaders, FAO senior officials, and experts from academia and industry. These include: - Food Safety Coalition (2021-2022), where Mars convened the Food Safety Coalition to progress solutions in food safety, specifically data and knowledge sharing to address the challenge of aflatoxin contamination in raw materials. - Future of Food Safety Summit (2021) - FAO Investment Days (2019) - Moving the Needle on Mycotoxin Prevention workshop (2018) - Global Understanding of Food Fraud conference Beijing (2017) Food safety is a huge task, and no single entity can do it alone. It takes collaboration, dedication, and continuous efforts. I would like to take a moment and thank past and present colleagues at Mars: Robert Baker, David Crean, Abigail Stevenson, Rebecca Bieniaszewska, Susan Blount Matthews, Bethany Wolf, Maria Velissariou, Georgina Cuckston, Yueju Zhao, Jean-Christophe Flatin, Eva Hübner, Justina Raggett, Victor Nwosu, J .B. Cordaro Senior officers at FAO: Markus Lipp, Tom Heilandt, Renata Clarke I moved on to a different post last year, but food safety always holds a special place in my heart. I am very excited about this expanded partnership between Mars and FAO and can’t wait to see what this new chapter unravels. #FoodSafety #SafeFoodForAll #PartnershipsForTheFuture #ProudlyMars #TomorrowStartsToday
Collaboration is essential when tackling global food safety challenges and I’m delighted to share that Mars and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) are extending our global partnership. At Mars, we believe everyone has the right to safe food and one of the key areas our expanded partnership will focus on is sharing our technical knowledge and scientific expertise in mycotoxin management, helping to ensure safe food for all.
