I was losing focus live on CNBC. Turns out, it was my diet messing with my brain. Changed that, lost 22 pounds, and now I fast 16 hours a day. The kicker? If you love wine like I do, drinking it before bed kills your sleep. Pro tip—don’t.
I agree whole heartedly. I have the same discipline however the key understanding is this is an exercise with muscle memory. Specifically, to fast you must train and get your mind and body to need less food. It took me several months with hardship to obtain these abilities. However once you have your brain trained you are no longer hungry. Thus you can control you diet and weight much easier. For me I was 278 lbs and now have maintained a weight of about 212 lbs for 4 years. My blood pressure and overall health has dramatically improved as a result.
I'm "experimenting" with the strategy of avoiding alcohol in the 2-3 hours before sleep now. Not ashamed to say the late night wine or whiskey had become a habit. But when it was hard to lose weight or gain muscle even with intermittent fasting, healthy diet and 4x + exercise per week, I knew something in the "recovery" part of the plan wasn't happening like it should.
Thanks for sharing your insights on the impact of diet on focus and sleep. 🍷✨
Ok drink wine midday. Got it. I do fast but not for 16 hours! Maybe 8 tops. And what is the diet?! Or is it just fasting he recommended?
Interesting
Intermittent fasting can be very tricky; you need to be cautious. There is strong evidence that it promotes longevity, presumably by promoting something called Autophagy, which is our cells’ way of cleaning up debris and promoting new cell replacement. A supplement called spermidine offers a similar way as achieved by intermittent fasting. It’s natural and is in many common foods. Whether your diet provides enough of it, or whether taking even more by supplementing is helpful is difficult to know, but the data on it is pretty impressive. For sure, if you fast make sure you’re getting your daily adequate nutrition, including and especially protein. You do not want to short yourself with the nutrients you need for a healthy immune system. As I have strongly argued, living to age 100 with vitality and cognition should be the rule, not the exception, in the 21st century. It takes some work and certainly requires vigilance in the healthcare system when illness strikes, best served with healthcare advocacy. Centurist ProHealth, PLLC
It's inspiring to hear how making small changes can have such a significant impact on overall well-being. Your journey serves as a reminder to prioritize health in all aspects of life.
Your normal, healthy weight is your height minus 100 in kilograms. Now you know how much you have to go. Also, 16/8 gives your body cells more time to recover which makes you live longer. Also, while your body adjusts to the lower amounts of food, eat food that is high in potassium providing you with lots of energy. Avocados, legumes, etc. Doctors on YT say we need a minimum of 4700 mg of potassium a day. (Dr. Berg, Dr. Mandell and others)
Very helpfulThis could be the best year of your life! It’s Going To Be A Great Day! "This is the day which the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it" Psalm 118:24 God has divided our time into days and nights so that we can ask for fresh power for each day. When we begin the day with a quiet time with the LORD, it’s like reporting in for duty, getting the strategy for the day, and hooking into power to make each day maximum. Job discovered that the morning stars sing together. We can join in that song. Attitudes determine so much of how we handle life’s pressures and challenges. When we surrender a day to the LORD and spread out before Him all that we anticipate, suddenly the day is a delight and not a drudgery. Some people are morning people and are wide awake the moment their feet hit the floor. Others are night people, whose best hours are after midnight But whichever we are, the daytime is when most of the world does its business and makes its crucial decision. We need to be wide awake for the LORD’s incredible possibilities in each potential that masquerades as a problem.God’s Best For My Life. John Ogilvie Harvest House Publishers. Sept. 18th. Devotion.
