Today, we celebrate International Day of the Girl Child, a movement launched by the UN in 2012 to empower girls and address the challenges they face globally. This year, the theme is "Girls' Vision for the Future". However, before we can truly look toward the future, there's a critical issue that continues to affect girls and women: the lack of safety in their environments. What girls need most is a safe space where they are respected, treated equally, and given the opportunities they deserve. The foundation of this change lies in education. An educated individual has the power to drive progress and create the empowerment we seek for girls worldwide. This Girl Child Day, let’s commit to being the change we wish to see. It all starts with us, within our own actions, to create a safer, more equal future for every girl. #InternationalDayOfTheGirlChild #EmpowerGirls #GirlsVisionForFuture #EqualRights #SafeEnvironment #EducationMatters #GenderEquality

Girls‘vision for the Future: Celebrating "International Day of the Girl Child" at YouthUp Global International Day of the Girl Child is important as it recognises the girls’ rights and unique challenges they face. Established by United Nations on 11 October 2011, the International Day for the Girl Child highlights the various challenges that girls encounter in their daily lives. Girls face numerous challenges, including lack of access to education, gender bias, and the digital divide among other. Despite these obstacles, youth led organisations including those under United Nations and African Union, have made a concerted effort to support Girls Empowerment. For instance, the AU African Charter on the Rights and welfare of the Child and Agenda 2063 advocates for Rights and Welfare of Children. Education is vital for girls as it equips them with knowledge and skills, enabling them to make informed decisions about their future. We all have a responsibility to champion the rights and potential of every Girl Child. This could be achieved through advocacy, investing in community programmes, providing mentorship and guidance. Education is a fundamental right that empowers young girls to envision a bright future! #InternationalDayoftheGirlChild #GirlChild #UnitedNations #GirlsEmpowernment #GenderEquality

Inspirational #quotes from renowned activists and writers highlighted the urgency for women's rights and interculturalism. Two #casestudies brought to light the harsh realities of #culturaldiscrimination and #genderbasedviolence. Our discussions focused on understanding and combating various forms of discrimination. We emphasized the need for #awareness, #education, #proactivemeasures and #longtermplanning to break the #cycleofviolence, prevent and manage these issues. Let’s unite to ensure our schools are places of respect, diversity, and inclusion. #EducationForAll #DiversityAndInclusion #Respect #UnityInDiversity #Empathy

Women How many more women have to die? I have been an advocate for teaching child protection all my career. When I wrote the course for early childhood to year 10 for PDHPE at a university I included a child protection section for ALL preservice teachers. My anonymous student survey results were 5.6/6.00. I think it would be wise to expose our preservice teachers to complete our course so they truly understand Australia is in crisis. UPPER HAND COURSE The Upper Hand course on trafficking offers senior high school students’ insights on how to gain the upper hand in a time when they face adversity. Drawing upon Nicoll Teacher Competence Model (NTCM, 2007) our course aligns with: 1.) Cross Curriculum outcomes to include: Outcome 6: skills in critical thinking and the ability to take responsible action to promote wellbeing (SYLLABUS: Community and Family Studies Stage 6 Syllabus) 2.) The 5Cs: 1. Critical Thinking 2. Communication 3. Character 4. Collaboration 5. Creativity 3.) Universal Declaration of Human Rights Article 4: No one shall be held in slavery or servitude; slavery and the slave trade shall be prohibited in all their forms. 4.) United Nations SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals ) targets by 2030 to include: Goal 5: Achieve gender equality and empower all girls and women. Let’s all be brave and take a first step towards initiating change to empower our next generation of leaders (Gen Z and Millennials). International Day of the Girl Child: Empowering Voices, Securing Futures Today, we celebrate this day, known as the International Day of the Girl Child- a reminder that each girl in every corner of our world possesses a potential beyond limits. This day brings to light the challenges that girls face, but more importantly, it raises their voices and rights to equal opportunities. Girls are powerful agents of change. When equipped with education, healthcare, and protection from discrimination, they can break the cycle of poverty and lead innovation to build more resilient communities. Still, too many girls suffer barriers to fundamental rights, including child marriage, other forms of gender-based violence, and a lack of opportunities in education. Our collective responsibility is to stand up for every girl so she can dream freely, grow with support, and thrive with resources. Let's champion policies and initiatives that provide girls with safe spaces, quality education, and leadership opportunities. We are investing not just in their future but in that of humanity. Let us, on this day, re-dedicate ourselves to a world where every girl gets an opportunity to shine. We can jointly create a world of equality, inclusion, and empowerment for each girl child. #DayOfTheGirl #GirlPower #EmpowerGirls #EducationForAll

Today, there are more than two billion women living without full legal equality. Education is critical to all aspects of social, economic, and political life, yet millions of girls are legally excluded from school and prevented from getting a formal education. Today is an opportunity to unlock the potential of women everywhere. https://buff.ly/3uMaN9D #InternationalWomensDay
