🎄 Advent Calendar: It's Time to Open Door Number #5 - Let's Talk About #MusclePower! Click the link to open a new door: https://lnkd.in/dtjVm_2r ➡️ Each year, 20–40% of older adults experience falls, often leading to fractures, traumatic brain injuries, and increased mortality rates. ➡️ Beyond the physical consequences, the psychological effects, such as the fear of falling, often result in decreased physical activity, social isolation, and a reduced quality of life. 🖐 How does #muscle #power come into play? 👉 Muscle power is a strong predictor of fall risk. A study by Skelton DA shows that muscle strength decreases by 1.8–2.0% per year, while #muscle #power declines more rapidly, at 3.2–3.7% annually, in adults aged 65–89. 👉 Studies confirms that resistance training, whether performed independently or as part of a multimodal program, significantly improves maximal strength, muscle mass, muscle power, and functional independence, effectively reducing fall risk in older adults. 💪 The benefits of regular physical activity focused on strength, power, and balance include: ✅ Resistance training to combat muscle loss and build power. ✅ Balance exercises to enhance stability and reduce fall risks. ✅ Comprehensive programs to improve coordination, mobility, and independence. Tailored interventions are highly effective, improving both physical and functional outcomes for older adults, including those with disabilities. 🌟 #Falls #FallPrevention #MusclePower #StrengthTraining #HealthyAgeing References: 1. "The annoying thing about exercise is... ...that you can't take it as a tablet" 😅 Our Managing Director, Scott, recently gave a health talk for ALICE (All Inclusive Care for Older People) program, at the Long Jetty Over 50's Club. The aim of this project is to support older adults to live healthily, happily and independently, without the need for hospital visits or residential care. This is where encouraging older adults to engage in regular exercise comes in! ✨ Did you know... Around 50% of falls can be prevented! Falling is NOT a normal part of getting older... While it’s true that the risk of falling increases as we age due to changes in vision, balance, and strength, these risks can be effectively managed and prevented. ...and that's where our exercise groups come in! 🏋️♀️ At Community Therapy, we offer a variety of exercise programs designed to help older adults improve strength, balance, and overall well-being. 🚀 Our groups, led by experienced Physiotherapists and Exercise Physiologists, create a fun and supportive environment to keep you moving safely and confidently. 💪🏼 Ready to take charge of your health? 🎯 Join one of our exercise groups and start reducing your risk of falls while staying active and independent! 👉🏼 https://loom.ly/O6TQeUY #FallsPrevention #Physiotherapy #ExercisePhysiology #AgedCare #OlderAdults #ExerciseGroup
