Our training course "Fundamentals of Scientific Metadata" is designed in a modular fashion to facilitate the adoption of the training material for domain specific target groups. Together with Abril Azocar Guzman from NFDI-MatWerk we successfully proved this concept by adapting the material for the Materials Science and Engineering Community. Yesterday I presented our work at the #MSE2024 in Darmstadt during the session "Digitalization: Digital Transformation in Everyday Laboratory Life". Many thanks to the organizers for this opportunity and the audience for the encouraging feedback. If you like to check out the domain-agnostic teaching material, head over to The Carpentries Incubator: https://lnkd.in/e8EEf5tr (don't forget to switch to "Instructor View" for the full content 😉 ) P.S. The publication of the MSE-specific material is in preparation 💪

Very happy to have contributed to this special issue on a very relevant topic, given common concerns in the literature around ambiguity and confusion toward how best to approach Educational Technology research design, the lack of theoretical engagement, and a tendency for basic forms of descriptive research. Since the pandemic, there has been greater public attention and academic scrutiny to the influence of Educational Technology at all levels, and there has been some well-established criticism of the quality and rigour of research in this field. Could advanced forms of *mixed methods educational research* be a solution to these common problems? Have an open source read to find out more !! https://lnkd.in/dy5XdtHM
It is good to see that our special issue "Methodologies for Research on Educational Technology. Emerging Approaches" of Educational Technology Research and Development (ETRD) has been finally issued as October 2024 issue with 20 articles. I am grateful for the leadership by and collaboration with Michael Kerres, Pavlo "Pasha" Antonenko and the EiC Lin Lin Lipsmeyer who supported us. https://lnkd.in/eJKRy6hA #edtech #research #methods #methodology #research #development

Thanks MaynoothWorks for the incredible module GST10.
“Curiosity to learn more about Intellectual Property in relation to my research on “Data Sovereignty and Rights Sharing in Agriculture” was my motivation to take the Innovation & Research Commercialisation module. The sessions reshaped my understanding of the research and innovation landscape. For my final business pitch as part of the module, I presented on a business idea completely different to my current research. The process of working through it enabled me to see the potential of pivoting the original idea to a to a business-to-business model and to understand the potential for further development of the idea with the help of EI of Innovation Vouchers https://lnkd.in/e3f5bw28." This is feedback from Fjolla Berisha Doctoral Candidate in Computer Science on the Innovation & Research Commercialisation (GST10) module delivered by MaynoothWorks : At MaynoothWorks , we protect and promote Maynooth University generated intellectual property (IP) via licensing and business start-ups and embed a culture of research commercialisation across the University. In addition to formal training, like the sessions Fjolla attended, researchers are welcome to chat with us informally about commercialisation, innovation, start-ups, spin outs and IP. #euinmyregion #KTBoost #Innovation #ResearchCommercialisation Enterprise Ireland Maynooth University #WomenInSTEM

We’re excited to introduce another research team joining SEERNet. Dr. Ryan Baker, Dr. Amanda Barany, and Dr. Stephen Hutt are partnering with the OpenStax/Kinetic platform to explore innovative ways to enhance self-regulated learning (SRL) through digital tools like highlighters and note-taking features in digital textbooks. Their work focuses on understanding how learner characteristics and SRL behaviors influence comprehension and knowledge retention. By co-designing interventions, their goal is to create tools that empower all students to succeed, transforming how digital textbooks are used in classrooms and beyond.
