Foamed polypropylene (EPP) is a material that is used in many industries because of its properties. EPP has a very high degree of freedom in forming any shape of parts, has good insulation parameters, is lightweight and, above all, durable. The mentioned durability can be characterized by different degrees - depending on the density, which in the case of this material can range from 15 to 250 g/l. At the same time it is worth mentioning that in the structure of one technical part made of expanded polypropylene, this material can be characterized by different densities, as a result of which its hardness in different places of a particular component will be different. In recent years, polyolefin (PO) waterproofing sheets have increasingly replaced bitumen as the substrate of choice, owing to their superior performance. Typically, PO sheets are pre-coated with a hot-melt pressure sensitive adhesive (HMPSA), transforming them into self-adherent sheets. This design incorporates a PO substrate, an HMPSA layer, and optionally, a sand layer or release film liner. The HMPSA layer plays a crucial role in bonding the PO to concrete and preventing water penetration at sheet joints. Ensuring the entire system exhibits excellent weather durability is paramount. PO demonstrates superior durability compared to bitumen, thanks to its saturated chemical bonds. For HMPSA used in pre-applied waterproof sheets, hydrogenated hydrocarbon resins like ECOPOWER tackifiers are employed to impart tackiness. These DCPD-based resins, along with components such as styrene-isoprene-styrene block copolymer (SIS), naphthenic oil, low molecular weight polyisobutene (PIB), and stabilizers, constitute the HMPSA formulation. Compared to other tackifying resins like hydrogenated C5, C9, or unhydrogenated C5 resins, formulations based on ECOPOWER tackifiers demonstrate balanced application performance and notably excellent UV resistance.
