Embracing Change, Celebrating Impact: Our Journey from 2015 to 2024 When I started @Embrace Change in 2015, I had NO IDEA what I was doing. I literally just thought I'd be good at being my own boss. As we close out our 9th year, I'm taking my own advice (practicing what I preach! 🤓) and looking back at milestones I never could have dreamed of in those early years. I am proud to say we are now transforming BIWOC and BIPOC careers at scale and building real economic power in our communities. #hypewomen The most inspiring speaker Tsvetelina O. shared her journey and insights on the transition from Designer to Leader at a wonderful event yesterday by #AmsterdamUX hosted by Mews. Never thought about it this way before, but indeed leadership skills are all so-called “soft skills”. When a very experienced designer with a solid range of professional hard skills is moved up to leadership, their “leading” can simply fail because of not having, not having learned, or not being willing to learn the leadership set of “soft” skills. Which again makes me question the “softness” of such essential skills as strategic thinking, adaptability or empathy – I covered the latter in my keynote at ADPList’s #BeMore2023 and presented it as a strategic tool, not at all as a soft skill. Food for thought! But most importantly, especially in the light of the #IWD tomorrow – well done Tsvetelina for getting so far in your career as a #WomaninTech. It’s still not easy, the glass ceiling is still there, but you have made it despite it all. A standing ovation to you.

That was my reality at #Converge2024, hosted by Ascendion—and it was nothing short of exhilarating! From intense discussions about the future of artificial intelligence to real-time software engineering demos, I had the honor of guiding conversations that mattered. But what truly made this journey unforgettable? Being recognized as one of the most engaging moderators among all the incredible hosts at the event. 🙏 Here are 3 tips I found invaluable while moderating that can help anyone become a top-notch moderator: 👥Know Your Panelists and Audience: Research the panelists’ expertise thoroughly, and tailor questions that will challenge them while adding value to the audience. Keep the audience’s interests at the heart of every interaction. 🍃Create a Natural Flow: It’s all about rhythm. Keep the conversation fluid, ensuring the panelists feel comfortable and the audience stays engaged. A great moderator knows how to steer the dialogue without interrupting the natural discourse. ⚡Engage with Energy: Your energy sets the tone!
