On the Road Again: Strengthening Connections and Gaining Insights In the first weeks of September, we embarked on a fruitful journey to some of Turkey's key agricultural regions. Our colleagues and Turkey specialists, Cagla Celikler and Ismet Yürek, visited producers and plantations in Mersin, Tarsus, and Bursa. In Tarsus, they assessed the progress of the upcoming pomegranate season. In Mersin, they reviewed the recently concluded watermelon season and began preparations for the citrus harvest. Finally, they headed to Bursa, where they monitored the fresh fig season, which was already in full swing and quickly approaching its end. “These trips are invaluable, giving us a deeper understanding of the evolving production processes. Even after many years in the industry, we learn something new with every visit. Staying close to the people and the land is what helps us deliver the best quality products,” says Ismet Yuerek. Such experiences are essential for maintaining strong connections to both the production processes and the incredible individuals behind the work. #KOELLA #FruitIndustry #Pomegranates #Watermelons #Citrus #Figs #ConnectionMatters

I believe that "quality" is not just about a label of the end product, but the journey it takes to get there. This is how the story of our Pangasius begins, and why maintaining the freshness of the raw material is essential to the entire pangasius supply chain and processing: Q: 𝘐𝘴 𝘪𝘵 𝘳𝘦𝘲𝘶𝘪𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘱𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘢𝘴𝘪𝘶𝘴 𝘴𝘶𝘱𝘱𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘤𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘴 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦? A: Yes, it is. This ensures the freshness and quality of the fish, which is crucial for the final product (fillets, steak...). Live fish (harvested from inspected and certified farms, with satisfactory testing results for antibiotics residues, etc.) allow for more control over the processing process, such as bleeding and gutting, which can affect the taste and texture of the finished product. Q: 𝘚𝘰, 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘶𝘪𝘵𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘷𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘴𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘤𝘦𝘥𝘶𝘳𝘦𝘴? A: Despite the fact that ponds or floating cages can be located a dozen kilometers away from the processing plant, fish will be harvested and transported by boat. A special boat with numerous holes for water exchange is used to keep the fish alive during the journey to the processing plant. Black pomfret, a prized species native to the reefs of the Indian Ocean and West Pacific Ocean, including the waters around Southeast Asia, is renowned for its taste and nutritional value. Several countries in this region are known for their black pomfret production, with Vietnam, Indonesia, and Malaysia being notable exporters. Vietnam Vietnam is a major player in the black pomfret market. The country exports a significant amount of frozen black pomfret to high-demand markets like Japan, Hong Kong, and South Korea. Vietnam's commitment to becoming one of the world's biggest suppliers indicates a strong focus on quality and sustainable fishing practices. The extensive coastline and rich marine resources of Vietnam contribute to the consistent supply of high-quality black pomfret. Indonesia Indonesia is another significant source of black pomfret, particularly known for its wild-caught varieties. The country's diverse marine ecosystem supports a thriving fishing industry. Indonesian black pomfret is appreciated for its natural taste, which is a result of the country's traditional fishing methods and the pristine waters of its reefs. Malaysia Malaysia also contributes to the global black pomfret market with its wild-caught fish. Similar to Indonesia, Malaysia's black pomfret benefits from the country's clean marine environment and responsible fishing practices. The quality of Malaysian black pomfret is maintained through careful handling and processing, ensuring that the fish retains its freshness and flavour. #WormholeSeafood #SeafoodExporterInMyanmar #BlackPomfret #BlackPomfretExpoterInMyanmar

𝗜𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗮 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝗣𝗮𝗽𝘂𝗮 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗚𝘂𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗮? 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆, 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄? Well yes, wheat is a thing in Papua New Guinea, even if admittedly it is not a staple food there. Yet it has become more popular in recent decades and there are two major flour milling groups in the country. For our colleagues, Papua New Guinea has been a new ‘area’ on their business map since 2023, and this year Julian Sander and Tip Keng Pong from Stern Ingredients Asia-Pacific travelled to meet our customers there for the first time. “That was an experience!” they told us. Up front: Papua New Guinea is one of the most culturally diverse countries in the world. Can you believe that it is home to over 850 languages?! Many are spoken by the numerous distinct tribes, many of whom live in remote areas. This incredible diversity is reflected in the nation's customs, music, art, and traditional practices. “Even the national bird, the bird of paradise, reflects this colourfulness,” says Pong, showing a photo. With respect to the agricultural sector, the majority of the population relies on crops like sweet potato, taro, and cassava. For wheat the country is entirely dependent on imports, as it doesn’t have the climate or infrastructure to grow wheat domestically. Australia supplies the majority of Papua New Guinea's wheat needs. Wheat-based products such as bread and biscuits have become more prevalent, especially in cities and towns. Urbanization and changing dietary patterns have led to increased demand for these, yet the cost of wheat-based products is relatively high due to import costs and logistical challenges in distribution. Pong and Julian had the chance to visit the new factory complex of our customer in Lae in late July. Pong provided an intensive training course on enzymes to the local R&D team. “We received a very warm welcome, and the customer and everyone else showed great hospitality,” Julian reflects on the visit. “What I remember from these special days in PNG is how creative people are, even in using flour sacks for all sorts of purposes, such as luggage for agricultural goods. At baggage claim more than 75% of fresh items were packed using these creative bags. We bought some sacks at a local market and sent one to the FlourWorld Museum in Wittenburg.”

We are faced with new problems before we can solve the powdery mildew problem. #brownfnutskunkwas discussed 10 years ago and is still being discussed today. Chambers of commerce and agriculture, universities, industrialists are organizing meetings and seminars on both national and international platforms, and unfortunately, the result is a fiasco. The statements of #DeGregorio, an official from the #ferrero company, caught my attention. He says, "We will continue to invest in innovation projects to solve the problem all over the world, trust us." The date is 17/04/2024. The temperature in Giresun is 28 degrees, well above seasonal norms. This temperature seems very suitable for the egg laying period of this insect. They lay their eggs under the leaves. There were always people shouting and screaming about #ferrero in Turkey. I think they should shout more now to solve this problem... Because this problem is not only in our country but also in other hazelnut growing countries. Conclusion; We continue not to create our Hazelnut Policy We will continue to appoint unqualified managers. We continue to say "Save us from these diseases" instead of price from Ferroro. We look for new bees from China #hazelnut #Turkey #Fındık #chına #gıda #food #tarımveormancılık #economy #ferrero #brownhazelnutskunk #tarım #agriculture

Happy #FloraFriday from this amazing four-headed Pindo Palm (Butia odorata) at WFSU Public Media! Multiple crowns in palms are quite rare! The Pindo Palm is native to northern Argentina, southern Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay. It is the most cold-hardy of the feather-leafed palms and is tolerant of drought. Pindo Palms help create a tropical atmosphere on our campus and require nearly no maintenance. The fruit it produces is edible and is sometimes made into jelly-which is why it is also nick-named "Jelly Palm". The fruit turns orange when ripe, and has a flavor that has been described as being sweet yet also tart, reminiscent of both apricots and a pineapple-banana mixture. FSU has many older Pindo Palms that are quite valuable because they are rather slow growers and this one at WFSU is especially rare and valuable! #FSU #FSUFacilities #WFSU #BuildingExcellence #PindoPalm
