For anyone interested in the post-pandemic comeback of trade fairs and the future of our industry, we highly recommend reading Carsten Dierig’s insightful piece for Welt, one of Germany’s leading newspapers (link German/no paywall). 📰 As he writes: “Trade fairs were among those hit hardest by the COVID-19 crisis. Venues had to remain closed, events were cancelled, and companies faced bankruptcy. Now, a series of organisers are reporting record results. Not least because the true value of trade fairs has been rediscovered.” Dierig describes how Koelnmesse, in particular, kept on investing in the future of physical trade fairs and events throughout the slump, and then managed to announce record sales in time for its 100th anniversary. The last quarter of the 20th century marked a transformative period for the transportation and logistics industry, with trade fairs playing a pivotal role in shaping global connectivity. Messe München, founded in 1964 in Munich, laid the foundation for professional trade fairs, launching the transport logistic exhibition in 1978. Meanwhile, Turkey’s Eko Fair Co., established in 2003, aimed to showcase the nation’s logistics capabilities on an international scale through the logitrans exhibition. Overcoming initial market resistance, logitrans earned "international" status in 2014, drawing significant participation from global exhibitors and visitors. In 2009, during the transport logistic exhibition in Munich, initial discussions began between Messe München and Eko Fair Co., driven by a shared vision of advancing the logistics industry. This collaboration became official in 2011 with the creation of EKO MMI Fair Co., combining Messe München’s global expertise with Eko Fair’s local market knowledge. The joint venture positioned the International logitrans Transport Logistics Exhibition as a vital part of the world’s largest cluster of logistics fairs, spanning five countries and three continents. Amn avar are honored to have participated in this remarkable exhibition, which has become a cornerstone of the global logistics community. It provided an invaluable platform to reconnect with long-standing colleagues, strengthen bonds with our decades-old partners, and forge new relationships within the industry. This gathering not only reaffirmed the importance of collaboration in logistics but also highlighted the incredible progress we have made together. During Automechanika exhibition in Shanghai I was impressed by how Chinese exhibitors handle their booths. The moment someone shows interest, they immediately stop whatever they’re doing—even if it’s eating—and rush over to offer assistance. But here’s the best part: if you politely say “No, thank you,” they step back and give you space to explore samples or brochures on your own. No pressure, no awkwardness—just respect for your time and interest. This balance of attentiveness and non-intrusiveness is truly remarkable. It makes you feel valued as a potential client without being overwhelmed. There’s a lot European exhibitors could learn from this approach.

Product Sourcing & Procurement Initiation through Trade Fairs : Entrepreneurs seeking to setup a new business need to familiarize themselves with specifics of the Unit Economics of the business they seek to enter/expand as well as reconnoitre eventual arbitrage opportunities for the taking .. It is China's largest trade fair, presenting complete varieties of goods from Electronics, Hardware, Automobile ancillaries to Toys, Fashion & Home Textiles. It boasts of vast attendance (250,000 in May, 2024), exhibitors (25,000) and business turnover ($22b in May, 2024; $60b in 2019 edition). Similar Expos like CeBIT in Germany & the Hong Kong Electronics Fair are key events for the Computing industry. Osaka is due to host the Expo 2025 across 6 months which will be the largest World Trade Expo.
