Many thanks to Randy Hain of Serviam Partners and Karen Bennett of Cox Enterprises for making “Neurodiversity in the Workplace” a priority! As I interacted with Randy, Karen and their colleagues earlier this year, I was encouraged to know that organizations are making continued efforts to provide neuroinclusive workplaces. BUT… there is still much work to be done! Author Carolyn Crist notes “About 68% of U.S. employees say they’re unfamiliar with the term “neurodiversity… according to a March 18 report from Eagle Hill Consulting.”  Knowing that the term “neurodiversity” includes ALL of us is critical. It’s not just about autistic or dyslexic individuals - it's about ALL of us! In the same way that each of us has a unique fingerprint, each of us has a brain that works uniquely. Interesting insight from this chapter that the increase in distrust and polarization in society "may be leading some individuals to turn to the workplace to find the sense of meaning and solidarity that is often becoming more and more difficult to achieve with society at large." Effectively increasing the need to feel like they belong somewhere--in this case where they work. "We support neurodiversity, but we don't have the resources to support it" I'm a pragmatic businesswoman and also a family member and friend to many neurodiverse folks so this comment gave me pause ⚠️ How could we shift mindsets to make supporting inclusion a competitive advantage? Trends support this: 💡 Atomization of work into "skills, not jobs" 💡 Demographics mean that we need more, not fewer people contributing 💡 Don't we want a society where everyone matters? I do!
