Delhi Air Pollution: Supreme Court Urges CAQM to Reassess School Reopenings Amid GRAP IV Measures The Supreme Court has directed the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) to reevaluate restrictions on physical classes in schools and educational institutions in Delhi-NCR, imposed due to severe air pollution. Here's why this decision matters: Midday Meals Disruption: Many students lose access to crucial midday meals due to school closures. Limited Access to Online Education: A significant number of students lack the electronic devices needed for remote learning. Health Risks at Home vs. School: Most homes lack air purifiers, making it equally hazardous for children to stay at home. The court also emphasized continued enforcement of GRAP IV restrictions, including bans on construction and curbs on polluting vehicles, until a consistent AQI improvement is observed. Authorities have been warned about lapses in enforcement, with show-cause notices on the way. Additionally, states were instructed to use labour cess funds to support construction workers impacted by the restrictions. Immediate action is expected to ensure their subsistence during this challenging period. While the AQI in Delhi has improved slightly to ‘poor’ (281), areas still record readings in the ‘very poor’ category, underlining the persistent air quality crisis. #AirPollution #DelhiNCR #SupremeCourt #CAQM #GRAPIV #Environment #SustainableDevelopment #EducationForAll

This year again happened the same! The only solution that the Delhi Government can vouch for after Delhi is covered with a huge blanket of pollution, is ‘School Shutdown’ and not Curbing the cause of it. Instead of taking the easy way out with online classes, shouldn’t the #government focus on real solutions? The only solution they find is keeping small children at home and expecting their parents to be part-time teachers, who already have their own work responsibilities to handle. Instead, can anyone tell what measures are being taken to curb #pollution at its source? What accountability is being enforced on industries, construction, and vehicular emissions? School shutdowns might seem like a quick fix, but What’s the long-term plan to ensure our children don’t have to sacrifice their education because of pollution every year? The time for excuses is over, Delhi and its people need action, not a band-aid solution. The time for complacency is over, we deserve a future where clean air isn’t a privilege but a basic right. Pollution shouldn’t be a reason anyone misses out on anything, be it children or adults. What steps do you think the government and you, as an individual should prioritize to tackle pollution head-on? Do share this as much as you can so that they take some corrective actions! ____________ Follow me, Ritika Gupta Dewan, as I talk about "How you can become Remarkable" and my life experiences. #delhigovernment #pollution #delhiairpollution

Are students truly safe from Delhi’s polluted air while learning from home? Delhi’s air quality continues to make headlines, with the AQI frequently reaching ‘severe’ levels. Authorities have responded by implementing hybrid learning models in schools, aiming to shield children from hazardous outdoor air. Full article here: https://lnkd.in/g5YbeHEq But here’s the critical question: Does staying indoors guarantee protection from pollution? Sadly, the answer is often no. Without proper filtration or ventilation systems, indoor air can be just as polluted—or worse—than the air outside. PM2.5 and other harmful pollutants easily infiltrate homes, exposing children to health risks even during online classes. That’s where solutions like our Breezer come in. Dnair — Smart ventilation and air purification unit ensures a continuous flow of clean, pollutant-free air, transforming indoor spaces into safe havens. Supreme Court Directs Suspension of Physical Classes for All NCR Students Due to Delhi Pollution The Supreme Court directed the suspension of physical classes for all students up to grade 12 in Delhi and NCR due to severe air pollution. The Bench of Justices Abhay S. Oka and Augustine George Masih emphasized immediate implementation of Stage IV measures under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) and criticized delays in enforcing Stages III and IV by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM). The Court clarified that GRAP Stage IV would remain in effect even if the AQI drops below 450 and mandated monitoring teams to ensure compliance. Governments in NCR were ordered to file compliance affidavits by November 21, with the matter listed for further hearing on November 22. The Bench underscored the constitutional obligation of governments to provide a pollution-free environment under Article 21, citing the drastic impact of stubble burning, firecracker violations during Diwali, and ineffective measures by the CAQM. The Court also proposed a perpetual ban on firecrackers to address recurring pollution issues. This case highlights the Court's ongoing scrutiny of anti-pollution measures across Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi.

The National Capital woke up to a thick blanket of smog, with air quality reaching ‘severe’ levels in various parts of the city on Friday morning. According to data from the Central Pollution Control Board as of 6 AM, areas such as Anand Vihar (441), Dwarka (444), Mundka (449), RK Puram (437), and Indira Gandhi International Airport (446) all reported by Central Pollution Control Board at 6 am. To combat the escalating air pollution, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has implemented Stage III of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) across Delhi-NCR. As part of GRAP Stage III, emergency response measures such as discontinuing physical classes for primary school students in entire Delhi-NCR, and curbing construction have been put in place. Delhi Minister Gopal Rai announced stringent measures on Friday (November 15) to tackle the capital’s deteriorating air quality under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) III. The entry of inter-state buses, except for e-buses and those running on CNG, has been banned to curb vehicular pollution, a key contributor to high PM 2.5 levels. Additionally, BS III petrol and BS IV diesel four-wheelers are now prohibited within city limits. To address construction-related dust, private construction and demolition activities have also been suspended. To mitigate commuting challenges, 106 shuttle buses will be deployed, and metro services will operate 60 additional trips daily. 📹 Chitral Khambhati
