Building with a Twist: The Unconventional Concrete Block layer! 🍻🧱 The funniest video of a masonry pro who’s turned the age-old art of blocks laying into a comedy show! Watch as he checks the level of his blocks with—wait for it—a glass of beer! 🍺 Who knew construction could come with a side of brew? The Art of Bricklaying 🧱 Block & Bricklaying is a skilled profession that involves the careful placement of bricks to create everything from walls to intricate structures. Here’s a little insight into this essential craft: Precision Matters: A level surface is critical in ensuring stability and aesthetic appeal. Typically, masons would use tools like a spirit level or laser levels, but apparently, a good brew can do the trick too! 😂 Knowledge Is Key: Understanding materials, mortar types, and techniques is vital for a successful build. Clearly, this mason has his own... unique method! Bricklaying Materials: Not just bricks and mortar! The choice of materials can greatly influence durability, cost, and appearance. Can you get the looks of a brick façade with the ease and strength of precast concrete? Yes, that is possible by combining precast and traditional masonry. 🧱 Follow these steps: 👣 Furnish the mold table with plywood 👣 Fix the plastic raster on the table 👣 Lay the cloth and the bricks on the table 👣 Protect the brick seam (in case the wall will be seamed later) 👣 Water the bricks 👣 Add reinforcement 👣 Pour the concrete and finish See the full step-by-step guide and read Toni Koitmaa’s top advice to build beautiful precast brick walls! #precastconcrete #howprecastbuilds

Yes, you can use masonry paint on wood, however, it may not adhere as well as it does to masonry surfaces, which could lead to peeling or flaking over time. Masonry paint is primarily designed to protect and enhance the appearance of masonry surfaces such as brick, stone, and concrete.

What Does a Crack Say? (Possible reasons for cracks in a slab on the masonry walls) After investigating the cracked slab of a masonry building, we figured the following out: 1. The top layer of the reinforcement on the walls was placed close to the neutral axis of the slab. 2. Large spacing of the rebars in the top layer was another reason. 3. The level of the forms was higher than the supported walls, except where there were beams or lintels. This distributed the load onto the beams and the lintels as most of the walls stayed untouched. 4. The concrete was poured late and lost its original design strength. 5. Other meticulous details were pointed out such as the location of the openings and existence of othe loads on the area. Notes: 1- The video (x2.5) shows the pattern of the cracks which resembles with the location of the supports. 2- The title is just a figurative language.

So the other day we need to install a pony wall that wouldn't wiggle. Pro tip for you. It's all in the sheer. After you frame it up using 2x4. 2x6 is not necessary. Then you sheer both sides with plywood. Nailing pattern should be 4" on the edges and I did about 6" in the field. When placing the plywood on the wall be sure to push it down to the floor and over to the wall and plumb up your wall before you nail anything. Then nail away. This will give you the strength it needs to not move. If you follow these simple instructions you should be looking good. #construction #protip #DIY

#Lime work is a #craft. The mix and composition fundamentally shifts the performance and function of the #plaster (or #mortar). Whilst lime has its own preferential qualities, the choice of aggregate(s) it is paired with is just as as important in a #traditional #construction setting. One can select compositions of aggregates to meet performance requirements, such as increased flexural strength, absorbancy, free draining, high build/low mass to name a few. High build/low mass can reduce working time with less coats required to get to the desired depth, and ease of application on #lath and #wattle. Flexural strength has a greater importance in #timberframe #construction where seasonal shifts of the building structure are more marked than other building types. Pictured is a lovely example of #historic high status #plastering on a stone wall, with a high build/low mass plaster built out in excess of 70mm achieved with three coats - ~40mm and ~28mm, with a ~2mm finish. For those who are more technically inclined, notice the absence of hair/fibres... A deep understanding of the materials, substrate and conditions to inform a successful recipe is the mark of a true craftsperson. #ManyWaysOfDoing #NotAllAreTheSame #SkillRecognition #Heritage #Victorian #Edwardian #ListedBuildings #Conservation #Conservation #PeriodProperty #OldHouse

Myth: Brick is a decorative veneer that is applied over the primary wall structure. Fact: Brick can be structural. Watch this 60-second video to learn more… and when you’re ready to eliminate (or minimize) the structural steel or concrete frame and rely on the masonry for all (or part) of the building structure, give International Masonry Institute a call. We can assist. #StructuralBrick #Brick #StructuralMasonry
