Did you know you can use the bow thruster to steer the vessel when surging astern? When the vessel moves astern, the apparent pivot point moves to the stern. The distance between the apparent pivot point and the bow thruster creates a long leverage arm. This leverage allows the bow thruster to be used as a rudder when manoeuvring astern. During tandem mooring, the offtake tanker approaches the rear of the storage vessel and a connection is formed between the stern of the floating storage facility and the bow of the tanker using a mooring hawser.
