No organization or person can stop me from personally talking about #PrideMonth and the strength and amazingness of the LGBTQ+ community. Why? Because, for some, it's literally life or death. That matters more to me than my comfort or the comfort of large organizations who will do just fine whether or not they support us. And if a company or person doesn't want me to personally advocate for human beings to stay alive and for marginalized communities to be treated equitably, that's a "them" problem, not a "me" problem. I'll sleep just fine at night, knowing I'm standing up for what's right and good in this world and standing up for all of God's children -- especially those most vulnerable. Here are some stats from The Trevor Project that you should read through, reflect on, and take action to improve. The facts are that anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric and policies are hurting LGBTQ+ people, especially youth. We should all want our children to survive and thrive. That should not be controversial. ✨ LGBTQ+ History Month ✨ In case you didn't know, February is LGBTQ+ History month. This month, we’ve been sharing tips on how you can be a better ally to the LGBTQ+ community, including how checking your own privilege helps you to be more supportive, calling out discrimination, and remembering that everyone is unique with individual lived experiences. 👉 Allyship Tip 4: Be receptive to feedback 👈 Being open, receptive and listening to feedback from other people is so important. They may want to highlight something you could have done differently, give some advice so you can be more supportive, or educate you on their lived experiences or those of the LGBTQ+ community. Listening, not being defensive when being corrected, and allowing the other person to share openly with you will all go towards enabling you to be a better ally and better support to your LGBTQ+ peers! #lgbtqhistorymonth #inclusion #allyship #podtalent

✨ LGBTQ+ History Month ✨ In case you didn't know, February is LGBTQ+ History month. Last week, we shared the first in our series of tips on how you can be a better ally to the LGBTQ+ community, and how checking your privilege helps you to be more supportive to all marginalised groups, not just LGBTQ+ people. 👉 Allyship Tip 2: Call it out! 👈 Don’t underestimate the power of calling out micro-aggressions, people using incorrect pronouns, deadnaming, inappropriate jokes, or general discriminatory comments. It shouldn’t be the responsibility of members of the LGBTQ+ community to have to always stand up for themselves and point out when people are wrong – it’s everyone’s responsibility! Whether there are LGBTQ+ people present or not, calling out this behaviour every time it happens will hopefully lead to a safer and more comfortable environment for your LGBTQ+ colleagues. #lgbtqhistorymonth #inclusion #allyship #podtalent

"The Biggest April Fool's Joke? That Inequality Still Exists in 2024" As we step into April 1st, 2024, it's tempting to play pranks and share laughs. However, at Mist LGBTQ Foundation, we're spotlighting a 'joke' that's far from funny—the persistent inequality and exclusion faced by many in the LGBTQ+ community. While we engage in the day's fun, let's also remember the importance of action, awareness, and advocacy in creating a world where love, identity, and expression are no laughing matter. Today, let's pledge to be allies not just in word but in action. Let's work together to make the idea of inequality the biggest April Fool's joke of all—a relic of the past that no longer holds any truth. Join us in making inclusivity and equality a reality for all, today and every day. #AprilFoolsDay2024 #InclusivityIsNoJoke #EqualityForAll #MistLGBTQFoundation

Getting older is challenging enough. Aging as a member of the LGBTQ+ community can be even more so. More than 3 million LGBTQ+ Americans are over age 50. Many of us don’t have grown children to help us as we age. However, with a long history of fighting discrimination, we have built strength, resilience, and humor that will serve us well in later years. Click the link below to read more to find out how to help protect your rights, assets, dignity, and well-being as you get older. https://bit.ly/3RjJKu5 #lgbtqaging #lgbtqresources #lgbtqsenior #lgbtqowned #portlandlgbtq

This #PrideMonth our Social Media feeds and workplaces have shown an encouraging amount of visibility and support for our Pride community. However, GLAAD has reminded us that fair and accurate representation in media and journalism have a powerful and measurable effect on the lives of #LGBTQ people. What we watch on TV tends to mirror our current views, ideas, aspirations, fears, and concerns; so, while support for LGBTQ has reached an all-time high, we’re concerned to hear about LGBTQ-inclusive series being cancelled or abruptly ending after one or two seasons. Of the 468 LGBTQ TV characters counted in a recent GLADD study, at least 170 will not return next year, with 24% percent of those due to series cancellations or endings. We support the call to action and for unity, to boldly stand up and speak out for the rights, freedoms and dignities of LGBTQ people, families and allies everywhere. #LGBTQInclusion #PrideMonth2024 #DiversityAndInclusion
