What a hands-on learning opportunity for these University of Tennessee at Martin students! Dr. Sandy Mehlhorn’s Surveying with GPS class utilized the control network we set up as part of the annual Mid-South American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Student Symposium. This consisted of 10 metal pins being physically placed into the campus grounds, each with a GPS coordinate and elevation assigned to them.

🎉Congratulations to the brilliant team at Newcastle College for their outstanding performance in the CityZen game. Civil L3 Y1 C scooped second place for their top score! 367 teams took part in the digital game designed to inspire young people to follow a civil engineering career path. A word from the students: "We are grateful to ICE for giving us the opportunity to participate in the competition allowing us to showcase our technical skills to the engineering world. 2nd top game scorer is an overwhelming achievement, and we believe the ICE City Zen game was a great experience, it taught us the basics of all considerations, principles and restraints in the built environment and civil world. Our determination is the golden position and we plan to come back stronger." During the competition, students aged 16-18 played the CityZen digital game and submitted a video considering real-world factors such as budget, sustainability, and improving outcomes for people and communities. A word from the teachers: "We are extremely proud of our civil engineering students. The CityZen game helped our students develop transferable skills such as teamwork, communication, and problem solving. The students also gained an insight into STEM topics which will help them excel within the civil engineering industry." Read more 👇🏽 https://lnkd.in/e6AMwEzR

How can I pass the FE Civil Exam based on my experience? Many people have contacted me to ask how I passed the exam, so sharing quick points here might be helpful. 1. Familiarize yourself with the Reference Handbook “ which includes formulae, tables, and other reference information”. Note, it will be provided during the exam, but because the exam time is limited, you should be able to identify the correct topic quickly. 2. Study Materials: I used the following materials throughout my preparation: A. Books such as FE Civil Practice Problems “By Lindeburg”. B. Mark Mattson and Gregory Michaelson's YouTube channels “ I watched all of their videos and I was literally dreaming about their questions lol”. c. Past papers "do not forget to set your alarm to simulate the actual test environment and build endurance". 3. Practice regularly: Solve practice problems to reinforce concepts and enhance problem-solving abilities as much as you can. 4. Take enough rest before exam. 5. Do not forget to take a light snack with you on exam day since you will have a quick break. Remember that passing the FE Civil test takes commitment, persistent work, and a smart strategy to preparation. Good luck! #civilengineering #civilengineer #constructionindustry #transportationengineering #structuralengineering #environmentalengineering #FE #undergraduates #graduatestudents #engineering

I am excited to announce that I passed my FE Mechanical exam! It was a bit of challenge covering all the chapters required for the exam but nonetheless it paid off. It was definitely a great review session of all the engineering principles that I learnt in at AUS - College of Engineering (Mechanical Engineering Department). If you are a student graduating in the near future and planning to take the exam, my advice is to first try out a practice exam from either "M.Rashad Islam" or from "Kaplan PPI FE Mechanical Exam". As students we might be a bit overconfident when taking a glance at the type of questions asked in the FE exam. However, in reality the FE is a bit difficult for two particular reasons: 1) The exam is 5 hours and 20 mins long which can be mentally exhausting (the remaining 40 mins is the tutorial and break combined). 2) It consists of 110 questions and the examiners can ask just about anything from the syllabus listed in NCEES website. Therefore, by first trying out a practice exam, you get to see your weak points and honestly it can be a good wake up call!
