In a recent article in @theatlantic, the difficulties of your 20s are explored. The phase between adolescence and adulthood has long been daunting: You’re expected to figure out who you are, to create a life for yourself. That might sound exciting, as if all the doors are wide open, but much of the time it’s stressful—and modern challenges are making it harder. Young adults are more vulnerable than ever, but much of American society doesn’t see them that way. Your 20s are depicted as a carefree time with limited responsibility. You have new obligations but not the wisdom, support, or funds to handle them. In hindsight, your 20s can seem like a period when your load is lighter, but the reality is that the challenges of each era are different. There are a ton of global and cultural stressors that have expanded. Getting a job is more difficult. Goods are more expensive. Comparison is rampant. Rather than criticize a different generation, let's show compassion. Every era has its benefits and drawbacks. Each one is challenging in different ways. Our brains are incredible organs designed to adapt and overcome challenges. Throughout human evolution, our ancestors faced countless adversities, from harsh environments to predators. To survive and thrive, our brains developed the remarkable ability to rewire and reorganise themselves in response to experiences – a phenomenon now known as neuroplasticity. During childhood, this natural resilience building process is in full swing. Every time a child faces a challenge, whether it's learning to walk, making friends, or solving a puzzle, their brain is actively forming new neural connections and pathways. These experiences shape the brain's architecture, strengthening the regions responsible for resilience, problem-solving, and emotional regulation. So what can you do to support this process? By allowing them to face adversity while offering encouragement, providing opportunities for growth, and teaching coping skills, adults help children navigate adversity and develop resilience. Just like exercising a muscle, facing and overcoming challenges in childhood and adolescence strengthens the brain's resilience pathways, equipping them with the skills and mindset to handle future hardships with greater ease. So the great news is that resilience isn't just a trait we're born with; it's a skill that can be cultivated and strengthened throughout childhood and adolescence. By understanding the profound connection between adversity and brain development, we can better support them on their journey to becoming resilient, confident and capable individuals. They are counting on us to lead the way into a future where they are not just surviving but are truly thriving. Now that is something worth prioritising, don’t you agree? #resiliencematters #buildingresilience #thrivingkids

🌟 Growing Older, Growing Wiser: The Importance of Meaningful Growth 🌟 "It's no use growing older if you only learn new ways of misbehaving yourself." Aging is an inevitable part of life, but true growth comes from learning, evolving, and becoming wiser with each passing year. Simply accumulating years without meaningful development leads to stagnation, whereas seeking wisdom and self-improvement adds value to our lives and those around us. Research underscores the importance of lifelong learning for personal fulfillment and mental well-being. A study by the National Institute on Aging found that continuous learning and intellectual engagement in later years are linked to improved cognitive health and a lower risk of dementia. This highlights that the pursuit of knowledge and self-improvement is crucial for maintaining mental agility as we age. Moreover, personal growth enhances our relationships and social interactions. According to the Harvard Study of Adult Development, individuals who invest in their personal growth and emotional intelligence tend to have stronger, more fulfilling relationships. This focus on becoming better, rather than just older, leads to a more connected and satisfying life. To ensure that our growth is meaningful, it's essential to focus on positive development and learning from our experiences. Engage in activities that challenge your mind, seek out new knowledge, and strive to improve your emotional and social skills. Reflect on your actions and their impact, and commit to becoming a better version of yourself with each passing year. Let's take this wisdom to heart and prioritize meaningful growth over mere aging. By continually learning and improving, we can lead richer, more fulfilling lives and inspire those around us to do the same. #LifelongLearning #PersonalGrowth #Wisdom ********** 📈 Unlock the full potential of your team, boost productivity, and foster a culture of excellence. "Beyond our comfort zones is where real growth occurs." I truly feel compelled to discuss this topic in light of the recent reports of numerous student suicides as well as suicides in general. Although the above quoted idea is entirely true, it has many different facets. Most college students find that their homes are their comfort zones when studying in different states, cities, or even countries. It also applies to individuals who work in other cities or nations. When students like us leave their homes at the age of 17-18, or sometimes even 16, to prepare for competitive exams or to attend college, there are many advantages and disadvantages. The benefits include exposure, freedom, enjoyment, and, most importantly, the experiences you gain in a short period of time. But who discusses the downsides? The drawbacks significantly affect a student. They may occasionally even result in suicides as we are noticing nowadays. Among these drawbacks are an unwelcoming atmosphere, peer pressure, homesickness, lack of access to a healthy diet, and numerous other issues that might be specific to each individual. All of this has an adverse effect on an individual's general health, which in turn has an impact on their productivity and even their mental health. Therefore, it is crucial to keep an eye on these things as well to make sure they do not hinder our growth over time. Above all, talk to someone you feel will listen to you about your problems by sharing them with friends, family, or other people. It definitely makes a big difference. Having been a mental health student ambassador at college, it would be an honour for me to have a discussion on any such topic. If you are having trouble with your mental health in general or are going through a difficult moment, please feel free to DM. I would be more than happy to help. Even though I am not perfect, I think that we should support one another and grow together.

20%. That’s the percentage by which anxiety and depression has increased amongst young adults from 2007 to 2012 (National Institute of Health, India) Nearly 1 in 3 young adults (aged 13-18) experience an anxiety disorder. (National Institute of Health, India) Only 41% of young people (aged 15-24) in India said it is helpful to seek help for mental health concerns. (UNICEF, 2021) According to a survey conducted in early 2021 by UNICEF and Gallup, children in India were hesitant to seek help for mental stress. 𝘏𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘵! From a young age, we start measuring children by their report cards, trophies, and accolades. Success is celebrated, but at what cost? Beneath the surface of academic excellence, so many children are grappling with constant stress, self-doubt, and an overwhelming pressure to just be “𝗲𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵.” These numbers don’t lie: anxiety and depression among young people have skyrocketed. But why? Have we stopped for one moment to think about – WHAT ARE WE MISSING OUT ON? Let me help you and give the answer readily here – It’s building 𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 and 𝗲𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 in the kids from an early age and not constantly getting into the comparison mode of how many awards/grades they have earned per subject or whether they are far ahead of their neighbour Sharma uncle’s kids or not. Life coaching steps in to fill this gap. It’s not about teaching algebra or improving SAT scores. It’s about teaching something far more valuable—how to think, adapt, and grow in the face of life’s challenges. As a life coach, my mission is to provide that missing piece—𝘢 𝘴𝘢𝘧𝘦 𝘴𝘱𝘢𝘤𝘦 where children and teens can explore their fears, discover their passions, and grow into confident self-independent individuals. The world is changing faster than ever, and so are the challenges our children face. Let’s shift the narrative from chasing external success to cultivating internal strength. What’s your take? 🌱 𝘏𝘰𝘸 𝘥𝘰 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘬 𝘸𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘣𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘢𝘤𝘢𝘥𝘦𝘮𝘪𝘤 𝘴𝘶𝘤𝘤𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘦𝘮𝘰𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘨𝘳𝘰𝘸𝘵𝘩 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥𝘳𝘦𝘯?🌱 Let’s reimagine what “success” truly means!

It is not uncommon these days to hear from youth about the struggle that they are experiencing in sustaining their attention for a reasonable duration. Recently, in one of the conversations with a college going youth, he expressed that he likes listening to news which comes in short bytes and finds it difficult to read up content pertaining to the same news. The conversation then drifted towards areas such as how is the attention level in college classes for that matter. We steered the conversation towards understanding as to whether we are happy with news which is only of that duration, does that allow us to understand it, how does understanding about developments which are about wider social or political developments important? When individuals join their work situations, it is only through attention (the fundamental cognitive force) that they can do any justice to the work assigned to them- irrespective of whether it is customer facing or not. I am not even referring to the demands on trying to understand larger developments around us which are loaded with nuances. Getting used to scrolling from one content to the other is impacting the wiring of human mind like anything and we transpose the same "habit of mind" into a new setting which might demand a different response. The difficulty with these kinds of changes in our internal capacities is that, they are not going to be characterized as any sickness and one can appear perfectly normal yet have a gradually weakening attention span. The #EconomicSurvey of 2023-24 that was released last month points at this grave challenge stating that "‘great rewiring of childhood’ has interfered with children’s social and neurological development, covering everything from sleep deprivation to attention fragmentation, addiction, loneliness, social contagion, social comparison, and perfectionism". Within the wider framework of #socioemotionalwellbeing, one can touch upon all the above areas. In this instance, the risk of losing one’s grip on attention is that its linkages go to our will power and thereby our sense of self. If my volition is not in place, my sense of what I can do in my present situation can start shaking and that’s a very fragile ‘way of being’. Visually its something like a physical self with hazy boundary line and hence we are not sure whether that person is truly there for the task at hand. Working on any aspect of this nature, requires first of all to recognize the issue and then one can get into acknowledging its impact on us then further steps to work on oneself. And thereby the role of #selfawareness..
